at least they get to play the #130 scoring defense in two weeks (UMass, who is allowing 7.9 yards per play and 52 points per game)

the offense was bad last year too, but it was merely 100th in PPG versus being dead last and they were at least completing 60.5 % of their passes (versus 47.2% in 2019).

Yeah, they got by with good defense, timely turnovers, and just enough on the offensive side

Jesus, 502 yards given up IN A HALF?

Also only 4 3rd downs in that time.

Tough break for Indiana

Penix Jr. to Miss Remainder of 2019 Season - Indiana University Athletics

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will miss the remainder of the 2019 regular season and the postseason with a right sternoclavicular joint injury. Penix underwent surgery on Monday and it was determined following the surgery that he will not return for the remainder of the year.

"We feel really bad for Mike," Indiana head coach Tom Allen said. "He's worked extremely hard and had a great season. He'll recover from this and get bigger and stronger this offseason. Mike has a very bright future with the Hoosiers."

this will probably be the first season since 2014 where Michigan's opponents completed more than half their passes.

2015: 47.5%
2016: 43.6%
2017: 48.8%
2018: 49.4%
2019: 56.7%

Nothing like averaging 22.3 yards per completion.

insanity

Looks like they finish 7-5 in the regular season. Same as Wisconsin last year :L
It's pretty amazing. Hard to believe they haven't even hit 7 wins since 2011. They're a pretty decent team. Hell, they could win 8 games this year depending on their bowl. Haven't seen that in 12 years.

I'm rooting for them, honestly. I've always respected Lovie, and I'm a huge fan of that fact that they have a former michigan QB who's actually playing well.

So who is the B1G Coach of the year?

Candidates:
PJ Fleck - 9-0 @ Minnesota control their own destiny for B1G West and CFP
Lovie Smith - 6-4 @ Illinois, Bowl eligible
Tom Allen - 7-2 @ Indiana, ranked for the first time in 25 years
Ryan Day - 9-0 @ Ohio State, #1 in the CFP rankings, first time ever for a B1G team.

I have to go with PJ Fleck.

Ryan Day is eliminated, because Ohio State coaches aren't really eligible.
Smith and Allen have done good things with their programs, but PJ is head and shoulders above the rest.

With 3 games to go in the regular season, Fleck is my candidate.

here's the key to winning COY:

1) coach a team with low expectations
2) exceed those expectations

The reason Ohio State coaches aren't eligible? They always fail at step 1.

Yeah it's really hard not to give it to PJ Fleck. Honestly if they make the CCG I don't see why it shouldn't be given to both Fleck and Day as co-winners. Seems really wrong not to honor the tremendous fucking season first year head coach Ryan Day is having. Absolute dominance.

1979.

40 years.

That's how long it's been since an OSU coach won COY in the B1G.

Earle Bruce went 11-0 in his first year replacing Woody Hayes.

Since then:
John Cooper
Jim Tressel - 1 National Championship, National COY, 2002 + 2 other trips to the NCG.
Urban Meyer - 1 National Championship, 1 undefeated season (his first year, after the team went 6-7 the previous year).

None of these guys ever won B1G COY. Tressel and Meyer dominated their rival and the conference, but like I said, they never coached a team that wasn't expected to compete for conference and national championships, so they weren't eligible.
