The Bears saved 21.5 mill towards the salary cap by releasing G Cody Whitehair and S Eddie Jackson.
That's a lot of mooya. Now time to sign Jaylon Johnson

It looks like people are skipping the "figure out why" part.
Here's 12 reasons why:
  • Luke Getsy: 2022-23
  • Bill Lazor: 2020-21
  • Mark Helfrich: 2018-19
  • Dowell Loggains: 2016-17
  • Adam Gase: 2015
  • Aaron Kromer: 2013-14
  • Mike Tice: 2012
  • Mike Martz: 2010-11
  • Ron Turner: 2005-2009
  • Terry Shea: 2004
  • John Schoop: 2001-03
  • Gary Crowton: 1999-00

Thats not a very good track record there....

Altho I never understood how Martz could not make that teamgo after spending time with an offensive juggernaut in St Louis.....
Leaves the Bears and never heard from again.

Let me expand on my comment above...

As fans, we can recognize that there is a drop off in talent if you dont have a Torry Holt, Isaace Bruce, Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner.... you'd think a coach would find the strengths of what he has to work with and adjust?

We see other teams take less talent and get production.... not our OC's....

Although i will say i like Shane Waldron because he does not force a round peg in a square hole....

Bah...70 years? It's only been a crazy passing league for the past 20 or so.

This is the most accurate comment here.

Some teams realized in the 90s that you can completely build a team around a super talented QB. The rest of the league knew it in the 2000s. The Bears came around late and every attempt they've made at fixing the position or hiring competent offensive coaches has completely fallen flat.

Took a look at OC's Shane Waldron's career.

Over the last 20 years, he has bounced from college to the NFL a few times.
He has only been an NFL OC for 3 years since 2021, all with SEA.

Before getting the OC gig, Seattle (in 2020) ranked 8th in "points for" and 17th in yards.
Russell Wilson was their starting QB.

In 2021, Waldron took over as OC.
Wilson started 14 games and Geno Smith 3.
Their "points for" ranking dropped to 16th and yards slid slightly to 20th.

In 2022, Geno started all 17 games.
He had his best season in his 10-year career. 4282 passing yards and 30 TD. Also ran for 366 which is tied for most from his rookie season.
SEA offense rebounded to 9th in "points for" and 13th in yards.

In 2023, Geno started 15 of 17 games. (Lock the other 2.)
"Points for" dropped to 17th, and yards dropped to 21st.

For reference, in 3 seasons with Fields (under Getsy/Nagy), the Bears never ranked higher than 18th in "points for" or no higher than 20th in yards.
Not to mention that no one will confuse Geno Smith (or even Russell Wilson) for some of the more coveted QB in the NFL.

He has experience calling plays (unlike most of the OC the Bears have hired over the last 2 decades).
His offenses have been productive without a superstar at QB. (Keep in mind too they have a injury-related revolving door at RB. Their TE position is meh and WR is arguably comparable to the Bears.)
Plus he got more out of Geno Smith in 2 seasons than Smith's 5 other OC he worked under.

Overall, I am optimistic over the hire of Waldron.

Im hearing Tyler Lockett is gonna be cut saving Seattle 17 mil.......

Gonna be or already is 32 yrs old....kinda old to be signing him.

But he would be a very good short term wr to where we could pass on a wr at 9 and get that top of the draft def lineman or off lineman that we could use......
And being cut,not sure if Seattle would have to pay part of that....

No harm at all in signing a less expensive WR to help fill in the vacancy, even if he's a bit on the older side. I'm pretty sure Poles is gonna use at least one of his draft picks on a WR, the position is the deepest in some time. Everyone talks about the 'big three', MHJ, Odunze, and Naber - make it 'big four' if you want to lump TE Brock Bowers in this group. But there's a lot of receiving talent behind them in this draft.

Theres names being brought up such as the wr behind Nabers,Brian Thomas, that woukd be a nice pick.( I think you posted it)....there are a few to where we could pasd at 9,but Im sold as the big 4 at 9......but really dont think they will be there.
Im done with Mooney......let him find a home.

IM also wondering if Waldron will have a say in a possible Lockett signing.....it maybe a good fit.

Its gonna make for a very interesting couple of months thats for sure.

Granted, last year was probably right up there as well, but no doubt this coming draft is equally exciting, maybe even more intriguing due to all the options surrounding our #1 & #9 picks. I'm loving it.

Last year it was a given we were trading down,it was a no brainer........this season is not so easy.

Exactly. That's why this offseason & draft can be viewed as more intriguing, especially with that #1 pick and how Poles treats it. So many friggin' options.

I'm pretty sure this info has been previously linked, but I'm too lazy to research and confirm:

Here are the big daddies of these dates:

*Feb 20: Franchise tag window opens - Shouldn't take long to see which teams intend on tagging eligible FAs (see Jaylon Johnson)
*Feb. 27-March 4: NFL Scouting Combine - It will be interesting to see which players kill it or blow it during these trials
*March 13: NFL free agency opens and new league year begins - Who Poles signs will undoubtedly have an impact on our draft
*April 25-27: 2024 NFL Draft - Arguably the most exciting three days in our team's offseason
*May 2: Deadline to exercise fifth-year options for 2021 draftees - This is a key date only if Fields remains a Bear at this point

MY eyes will be glued to the combine for qbs and wrs....even Bowers.

And can't wait for the draft.....Love first day,but after that I know nothing about rest of the they pick.....
But still like to see what analyst say about them.....
