Just a little worried that Eberflus is applying the same clichè about progress when it became evident with Justin there was no progress.
It's rare that any HC avoids doing the usual spinning to make everything seem like all is normal. They never want to say how things are really going when they're not going well. so they just spin the usual BS.

I suppose in today's NFL its all sunshine and lollipops. Guess i just have my doubts about Eberflus as a coach. He got too much credit for turning the defense around imo (when it was really the addition of Montez Sweat).

But McCasky likes him. Warren likes him. Poles likes him. And seems like the players like him. Guess that means us fans (and the media) will never get an honest answer out of him.

Welcom back btw LSD.

Yes!!!

Been waiting to see this. Marcedes just might be the perfect #3 TE. He knows he's not going to see a lot of pass receiving action, that he'll primarily be used for blocking, being he's the best blocking TE on the team. But he'll also get few passes thrown his way here and there just to keep the opposing D honest. Great depth signing, as good as it gets.

At this point you're basically paying him to be a coach that can block and catch a random pass a couple times a year.

Which is totally fine because he is a very good blocker still.

grey pubes LOVES those pass catching backup TEs that end doing nothing for the season. Nothing ever changes around here.

Things that make you go hmmmm......

I'm not so sure this signing could have as much of a negative impact on Jones than it might on Dante Pettis. Altho DeAndre Carter, who had a brief stint with the Bears in '20, is primarily a return specialist, if you check out his recent activity , his PR stats have been more proficient relative to his KR numbers. And PR is more Dante's territory than KR. Plus Carter is fairly versatile when mixing in his receiving game, also like Pettis. I can't help but think the Bears brass would like to see Jones operate under the new kickoff rules for at least part of the season. Remember, Jones led the league last year in KR average for those with a dozen or more returns. Guess we'll have to hurry up and wait to see how this all plays out.

Improving on this alone could put us in the playoffs:

Them some ugly 4Q numbers. Now of course this assumes the other three quarters would play out like last year, which is by no means a given. But just being able to improve in that most important of quarters could definitely change our fortunes for the better. I said it before in here when talking about how we were a few chokes away last year from being a playoff team. True, but good teams, playoff-bound teams might gag on a single game, yet still make the cut. Not three of them. This isn't baseball, basketball or hockey. You only get 17 cracks at proving your worth. So there's your difference between a good and bad team. And this is what's needed to be cleaned up this year if we're to have any shot at the postseason.

Vs Denver, at Detroit, at Cleveland... all but signed and sealed wins that we wrapped up and handed away. Saints game, home vs Minnesota... there's even more we were in GREAT position to win and just completely shit ourselves in the 4th quarter.

I don't think many realize how close the 2023 Bears were to being a 10 win team.

I don't think this changes anything. We all know that Velus Jones is going to, once again, have to win his roster spot in camp against some competition. Pettis certainly isn't established enough to have a spot cemented either.

All this signing did was tell us who the competition is.
