Just realized Wake plays State today at Noon. Probably won't even watch it. Sixth straight year of the Deacs being a total non-factor in March. Getting tired of it.

Hope I get to see some good basketball once I get to DC on Thursday.

Going to have to start giving the ACC the benefit of the doubt when its time to start filling out brackets. 5 Sweet 16 teams last year, 6 teams this year

How NOT to run a College Basketball program, presented to you by Wake Forest

2009-2012 is pretty shocking.

I would actually be interested in seeing those same years for VT. With the turnover we had from Seth, James Johnson, and then Buzz pretty much turning over the entire team his first 2 years here, it might look just as bad.

Most of the teams in the NCAA Tournament have at least 4-5 upper classmen in their rotation. Despite being in the era of the "one and done", experience still matters. Need a nice balance of veteran players with your younger players. If you can't have that mix, then you are going to struggle, unless you're a school that can attract multiple Top 25-30 recruits each year. #analysis

Bzdelik's 2012 class basically guaranteed whoever replaced him (Manning) was going to have to deal with a huge mess (when it came to lack and talent and having to deal with a terrible scholarship situation). Wake's basically in a 4 year re-build right now.

Looking at that chart, its not an accident that Wake's best teams in that span were in 2009 (24-7, #4 seed in NCAAT) and 2010 (20-11, #9 seed in NCAAT). Only time in those years that Wake had at least 4 upper classmen on those teams. Having 4 future NBA players didn't hurt, either.

Yeah, that is pretty bad. Fortunately for VT, Buzz was able to secure transfers from Seth Allen and Zach LeDay. Those guys were great gets for your program. Justin Robinson was also playing great ball as the season came to a close.

Scary thing about Manning is that he doesn't have a resume (only 2 years as HC before he got the Wake job), other than him developing monsters at Kansas every year as an assistant. Have no idea what to expect and that is scary. At least with Bzdelik, we all knew he sucked ass by year 3. No idea on Manning, just because of how bad the program was when he inherited it.

The transfers clearly played a big role. Buzz totally cleaned house, so having at least a couple non-freshman was key.

With total dumpster fires, you have to give the coach 3-4 years to at least start showing improvement. Buzz totally exceeded my expectations this year. I figured he'd need 3 years to get us to the NIT discussion at minimum.

Wake shouldn't be the most difficult to recruit to, but it's certainly not Kansas, especially considering being in NC and other nearby ACC programs. Gotta have some sort of talent on the floor before coaching can even impact...just look at BC.

Wake fans were spoiled, because in the twenty years before Bzdelik, Wake had a pretty good run of success. Think it was something like 14 NCAAT appearances, 4 NIT Appearances, 2 ACC Tournament Titles, an additional ACC Regular Season Title, multiple NBA all-stars, etc. Every time I go to OGBoards, I just see a bunch of spoiled fans, who have absolutely zero patience.

I do agree that giving a coach four years is important and at the very least, Manning is bringing in some talented kids into the program.

Just look at Mark Turgeon and Maryland. Maryland fans were pretty anti-Turgeon after year three and then he turned things right around in year 4.

This year's tourney run is great for everyone in the ACC heading into next year. You know this will stick in the committee's mind so I'm betting that any team that makes it to .500 in the ACC next year will get in or at least be on the bubble

Sounds like there is a great chance that Jamie Dixon leaves Pitt for TCU. He is an TCU alum, FWIW.

Wake F Dinos Mitoglou is undergoing surgery (details have been very vague, but apparently something is wrong with his shoulder) Apparently he was hurt during the Rutgers game in November and just played through it. Probably explains his struggles during conference play.

And the ACC left one of its better teams at home in a self imposed exile.

Interesting that they have Miami at number 22. Miami was pretty much senior-heavy this year.
