I mean, sounds like you're rooting for a Thunder title here homes
Well if you couldn’t tell already I’ve pretty much given up on 2023 happening again…

Because the Nuggets as an organization are operating as if it’s still 2023 while other teams have evolved into 2025.

The hole at guard defender all the more evident last night. I don't think Knecht is going to sniff the floor in the playoffs. Old Klay roasted him, had him all turned around and lost.

Wow I didn't know this. A 2nd DPOY means supermax eligibility

Still crazy that the NBAPA allowed them to tie NBA players salaries to silly awards voted on by media members who don't even watch all the games.

This new CBA really is awful for a team like ours who just wants to be able to pay our own guys......many drafted and developed. Sure, some via trade but no bigtime FAs.

Unreal we could have 3 max guys and a near max in TT but still pay JR 16 mil and Shump 10-12 mil......nearly a decade ago. Now I think the most we can pay Jerome is a deal starting at 9 mil.

Guess at least good to hear need to win DPOY 2X for it to matter in case Mobley wins it.

Alright....now let's keep the Cavs in a bubble until we face the Cs Friday. Not sure we've been this healthy facing them in 2 years.

No doubt until beaten still team to beat but would love to see the Cavs take it to them one time like they have so many others. Hit shots and no reason they can't.

In the case of Mobley doesn’t making all nba multiple times accomplish the same thing?

Yes it would.....don't think he makes it this year but maybe. Down the road? If healthy think he will.

Really a shame we'd lose Jerome with an owner willing to pay but just able to. Likely he likes it here enough to take a little less but think he could get a lot more than we can offer.

and of course your team might have the same concerns but don't know muh about where they are as far as cap and certain guys,

yup the Thunder would have liked to have kept him too but with what they had coming they knew they couldn’t. Also, I don’t believe you have to make all nba first team, just all nba. I have to think that is possible for Mobley very soon.

Truth be told didn't even know he was with OKC (knew about GS).

Would have been hard to know he'd become the player he has....even current coach (and assistant in GS) admits he had no idea.

yeah definitely sucks for teams that built from the bottom through the draft.

I think the max offer for Jerome is between 12-13M. He will be 28. I think some teams could offer him in the 15-16 range but it is difficult seeing a team offering him like 20M/yr but who knows

Yep...that is possible this season for Mobley. I'd expect barring an unexpected setback or injury he makes it within 1-2 seasons after this one. I don't know that he can be a top 2 player in 5 years as he proclaimed but it's not a crazy notion he could. No idea what that kid's ceiling is.

If not mistaken thought I heard can start a deal at 9 mil so your 12-13 is about right for a 4-5 year deal.

That's where I think they need to tweak the cap so that teams at least get a "discount" on how much a player that they drafted and developed counts against the cap.

In the Cavs case, for example, get a discount on Mobley's cap hit, but take the full cap hit on Mitchell.

I think it could be league-changing...get a 10% discount for a guy you draft and develop. That is enough to encourage teams' to really build through the draft.

For example, a team like CLE they could get a 2025-2026 cap hit relief of around $4M for Garland and close to $4M for Mobley. That could be the difference in the 1st or 2nd apron

Yes....and even though signed as a FA maybe make it easier to retain a guy like Jerome in our case who was brought in for a very reasonable deal and developed into someone deserving of a nice payday. And I'm sure other teams have had situations like this.

One side effect would be making draft picks even more valuable

The point of the cap is to make it hard for teams to pay everyone forever...too many exceptions and might as well not have a cap.
