Dallas has their '25 and '26 1st rounders they could deal to add some more or keep and select players. This is a clear sign they want to contend (apparently they weren't sold on giving Luka the super max with his conditioning) for the next 3-4 years and then rebuild with a shit ton of cap space after AD and Irving retire or trade them.

They are now a serious threat in the WC.
Dallas was a pretty serious threat when they had Luka Doncic too. See: last season.

Are they a more serious threat now? That's the question... but I say not.

IOW: I would have kept trying to build around Luka.

Lakers fans have to be elated with this trade. I think they fleeced the Mavs. They have to find another competitive Big but the deadline hasn’t come yet.

Well their GM isn't keen on Luka's conditioning. And he recently said defense wins championships.

I think they are more of a threat now to make the WCF than before honestly. They have rebuild themselves on the fly. And might be able to make another trade before Thursday with those picks.....unless they decide to keep them.

I think we need to see how Dallas does with AD before we make those proclamations yet.

Welcome back.

Why are you so desperate to make this look like a better trade than it is? Just accept the win for your team man.

Just being honest.

I was pissed when I woke up this AM and found out because I loved AD on the Lakers but I think both teams did well....

That is why I think they had to believe he was gone in 2026.

Getting ahead of a possible trade demand limiting their options.

Dealing for another star whose window fits with Kyrie’s might be the best option they thought they had.

Never get equal value for trading superstar.

But I truly believe there is a small chance we look back at this deal in a few years and conclude that Dallas won it.

Only time will tell now.

I look forward to seeing what both teams do in the next week

You are assuming you have Luka for the next decade.

If Pelinka messes up the short term bad enough, you won’t.
But at the end of the day, that’s a terrible way for an organization to conduct their business. Any organization that is coming into something saying “let me hedge in case I fail” should just pack it in. You’re going to actualize your failure if you think that way. Parting with a guy on the back end of his career for a 25 year old generational talent is a no brainer. Personally, I think without LeBron, AD is an expensive albatross for the Lakers to carry into their future. He’s not an alpha or a Batman. I don’t think he ever was. He’s definitely not now.

Stop posting here.

You obviously hate the NBA. You bring nothing of value to these boards. And you are a vile, racist POS.

Go away.
This stuff goes on all the time. Meanwhile, I can’t get the mods to allow me to post on the Politics Forum anymore.

I never said the Lakers shouldn’t have done this deal?

Just tying to slow down the people doing victory laps

Lakers have a lot of work to do to make this one stick.

Still can’t make sense of the trade for dallas
If this is on the up and up they have to think they can win this year or next. Either that or there’s stuff going on with Luka being unhappy we don’t know about. Lastly maybe Silver has pictures of Cuban. Those are the options.

Gotta agree with you there, coach. And real talk, there's a lot that's gonna have to happen to make this one look good. We'll see if Palinka can get it done...

Lakers got Luka's medicals per trade rules but I swear Dallas must he hiding some big injury concern with Luka. Why else would you do that this soon? Like they don't even shop him. You know OKC would have given them every damn pick they had for him. You know there's other teams out there that could get a better package together. Why the fuck are you bailing on Luka for AD this soon without doing due diligence?
Have we not learned anything? what makes you think this has not been going on for a bit and they have shopped him to others? Because some reporter didn't tell us?

My bad. I assumed that this sentiment was a given. This applies to every team and every situation in the NBA, hell all of professional sports. All we can do is look at this deal and judge it singularly in this time and place. I think it’s very clear the Lakers won this trade. You’re right though in that ultimate success doesn’t come from a single transaction but in a glut of transactions - leadership, role players, complementary stars, etc…
