Looks like a platoon in LF with Grossmans and TBA likely Miller. Move does not bode well with Smith and Duran. They may get more grooming in AAA

That’s what I’m thinking.
True Platoon with Miller

From Levi Weaver this morning:

Grossman hit .320/.436/.443 (.879 OPS) against left-handed pitchers last year (compared to .163/.253/.256 (.509) against right-handers).

Miller was awful against RH last year too. He has to be a bench player on the team I would think.

Looks like it’s a waste of money to me. Bubba played well enough for being called up late last year. Miller was terrible. Grossman hasn’t hit above 241 in the last 4 seasons. And he’s 33. Bubba will get to balls that Grossman wishes he could get too. He’s going to be another Calhoun.

It makes very little sense.

I agree. Reminds me of what we were doing the past few years.

So a great start to the offseason signing SP and then we punt the Rule and the they dont do anything to fix the BP. They dont add a LF bat with power and then they add a scrub like Grossman to go with the scrub they already have in Miller, both of which are wastes of roster spots or playing time for young guys. If you aren't gonna grab a proven legit LF bat, then let the young guys play and find out if any of them can be counted on going forward.

This FO is downright frustrating sometimes.....there are good moves and then there are moves that are dumb as shit

Maybe they wanted a “seasoned vet” to start the season while the boys get seasoning in triple A

Word is it was thought to be an aberration.
Yeah it definitely looks like Bubba gets less playing time unless but maybe he competes for CF

I didn't even think he deserved to be rostered heading into Rule 5, myself.

He has trended worse three years straight. That doesn't seem like an aberration.

It is frustrating that they didn’t get Chaffin or Moore considering their affordable contracts and the Rangers need for at least one solid bullpen arm..

You may be mistaken. If he is around 800 OPS then I can see the rationale despite obvious better fielding and running from Bubba or even Smith.
I would rather se the development and pick ups someone at the break if in contention and yes would have picked up a closer

But I can see that last year was his worst in a while. Not sure why you said no aberration

His OPS has went down 3 years in a row. The drop was more this year, but then he was further past 30 this year too. I see mother nature taking her course more than I see an aberration.

To me we do not need Grossman or Miller, not on major league deals anyway.

How about a little context. I am definitely not the captain of the Brad M fan club and he had a terrible year overall misnus a good start
HisOPS was
2022 590
2021 774
2020 807
2019 941 and 742

Bubba last year 613
Josh S 556
Zeke 643
Mathias avg OPS 769

If you say the book is still out on the young guys and would rather see them at the MLB level then I get that but history shows Miller to better in a platoon.

We all have our opinions but minus last year, Millers stats were better than all the others and this does not account for the LHP/RHP splits

Do agree though I like the intangibles of the young guys but they have not bust the door down
