I guess I missed it when it was announced that draft-and-follow was back again. In certain situations you can draft a player and then you have a year to sign him. For the Rangers their guy is 17th rounder Carson Dorsey. A pitcher from Gulf Coast State College, who they drafted last July.

Jacobsen and Cody, though, have a chance to make the Opening Day roster and should pitch in the majors this season at some point.

Cody has MLB experience and the ability to go multiple innings with power stuff. The Rangers will have at least two left-handers in the bullpen with Taylor Hearn and Brock Burke, so Jacobsen or John King would be a luxury.

Manager Bruce Bochy said that he wants the eight best pitchers, regardless of what arm they use.

That is what I am hoping.
There will need to be some fixing of the roster to get these guys added

I think they do have a split squad today so I guess they decided to keep most of the regulars together, but overall it has seemed different. Maybe it is the Bochy difference.

I do think it is better for him to be in CF however it turns out. Have to think he is better than Carter defensively as well.

A week into exhibitions and here’s the report on the Rangers’ pitching:

--Nathan Eovaldi will miss his next start with side soreness similar to the kind of tightness with which Jacob deGrom reported to camp. DeGrom still has yet to pitch in a game.

--Expected closer José Leclerc has neck discomfort that has the Rangers mulling the possibility of not allowing to compete in the World Baseball Classic for the Dominican Republic.

--Jake Odorizzi, the expected first depth option for the rotation, still hasn’t faced hitters due to some soreness and is still trying to build up strength.

--And Owen White, the club’s top pitching prospect if he can stay healthy, has some upper neck tightness.

I imagine Carter gets the CF spot just as soon as he shows he us ready. Of course, he could still be close to 2 years away.

I would really like to find out about a few of our younger guys this year before guys like Harris, Zavala, Carter, Morrobel and Guitterez begin to arrive. There is always a chance guys like Foscue, Ornelas and Acuna are tried in the OF up here at some point as well.

Mike Bacsik just said that the most impressive thing he has seen so far this spring is the uptick in the velocity that Cole Ragans features now.

I was just going to say he is getting good results so far in his 2 appearances.
