Those are all good points......though once Phillip (or any coach) established himself he'd have gotten a longer leash if he took the bigger challenge IMO.

Do you agree with my opinion if he were not such a disaster as a FO exec and the Knicks had some elite talent he'd have taken that gig himself as the coach?

No I don’t.

His body was a wreck. He couldn’t handle the day to grind of coaching and all the travel that comes with it.

People don’t realize how crazy that lifestyle is.

No we don't since Brown did go to the NBA...that's kooky talk.

do you think Pop just got dumb the last half decade or so? Senile, maybe?

No, he doesn’t have the players.

But also, as coaches get older, I do think they tend to lose touch and have more difficulty relating to modern players.

Why it is very rare to see coaches Pop’s age have high level success.

I can buy that as I had forgotten he had some health issues.

Yeah that's what I'm saying....he doesn't have the players. Give him Duncan, Robinson and/or Kawhi and he becomes a better coach (even at this age with those players in prime). Likely Phillip is the same when he has MJ, Shaq, Pippen, Kobe, etc. Difference is Phillip never showed us what he might do if he didn't have the elite of the elite to coach.

and, yes, he does deserve credit for being able to win with them....a lot. But something tells me if he hangs on with the Bulls and no MJ/Pippen he may have been exposed some.

And then there are the forgotten ones like Red Auerbach and John Wooden.

No he isn’t.

Because there would be zero expectations with those teams just like there haven’t been any for the Spurs of the last few years.

Exactly...we would see they need the top players more than players need them.

We already know that no coach is winning titles with bad players.

Just not possible.

It is a 2 way street. Both need each other.

Great players can win with mediocre, even bad coaching. But they win a whole lot more with good/great coaching.

Because players absolutely get criticized for not winning as much as they should, even when they do win.

Exactly...the Shaq/Kobe Lakers won 50+ games a year with Del Harris (who was a good coach), but they won titles with Phil.

Never forget Dull Harris....

He made the Finals with the Rockets the season they beat the Lakers in the 1st round. Think it was 1981?

Listened to it on the radio.

True

And people pretend that pop took over a mess

That was a team that gave the jazz absolute hell and then tanked for Duncan after the admiral missed a few games

It was the modern equivalent of the bucks in 2022 losing to the Celtics, then tanking 22/23 and getting wemby….

The Warriors may release Kevon Looney. He is only guaranteed like 3 million and with the emergency of Trayce Jackson-Davis they could decide to go with him.

They have some tough decisions to make this offseason.

Looney will be a nice addition for some team looking for a backup big.

He looked very cooked last year but maybe somewhere else he can be useful for 15 mpg

He's a great dude though, big fan of him, wish him well.

He just needs to go to a team where they actually value the C position which is something the Warriors don't.

He should consider Denver, Pels, Kings, Sixers, and etc

No I mean he really looks old now, he played well in 2022 and prior and even the year before this one, not sure what you mean by not 'valuing' the position. Ws haven't had a traditional center since Bogut. They have a different model. TJD is the guy now.

But yeah maybe those teams can get him productive again as a bench piece
