You can’t blame the coach for an NBA player being a bad free throw shooter.

That is quite possibly your worst take you have made here. And there have been a lot of bad ones.

Some athletes lack fine motor to be a good shooter. I believe Mitchell Robinson is most likely one of those. He could be better yes. But it isn’t Thibs fault. He needs to shoot 1000 FTs a day in his own time. And even then I doubt he would be a good free throw shooter.

On the other side of the spectrum, guys like Curry (who has obviously put a ton of time into his shot) also have extraordinary hand eye coordination.

No, the coach ain’t out there shootin

And yes , there are circumstances that certain players don’t have the hand eye coordination… in the case of shaq, the ball was too small in his hands, I don’t see that with Robinson, and I’m not going to excuse him or Thibs for how bad he looked attempting them. He looked like he did not work on it enough, considering how important they would turn out to be.

Preparation, not one of Thibs positives

We been over this.

NBA practice time is limited. Players have to work on things like free throws on their own time during their shooting workouts.

By the way, Robinson had his best free throw percentage of his career this season. So if he does improve there it will be because of his career trajectory, not a coaching change.

It’s the only thing Robinson should have been workin on cause Thibs had him nowhere involved on offense… everything Robinson got was on his own or an occasional rarely used pick n roll

That's really unfair. The Knicks sucked ass till he got there. They lost to a Pacers team that was simply better than they were, after beating a Boston team...that was better than they were. The Knicks have nowhere near as much talent as Boston. Thibs coached his ass off
This is the known Thibs arc. 3rd time now, he steps in and his teams outperform expectations while players rack up obscene minutes, eventually he wears out his welcome.

This is probably the closest to hos peak performance he has ever been let go. I was always a little curious why KAT went back to a Thibs team, as Butler proving very publicly that KAT is a little bitch directly led to his firing in Minny.

No surprise. I saw something yesterday where they had lowered their asking price. Took em awhile to figure out a guy in his late 30s that's missed significant chunks of the last couple of seasons with injuries and is on a one year deal doesn't have a ton of trade value

Firing a coach that got the most out of a roster. So NBA....

Trade away multiple pieces for a big that doesn't defend, then fire your defensive-minded coach. Brilliant.

I've always harped on his tendency to overplay his starters, but the GM didn't do him a lot of favors there either. They've sold out to get that starting 5.

5 years here and he’s had different rosters with same result in the end…

He’s gotten 2 org to 50 win seasons with same result , no ring

The man is stubborn and uses very little of what the game offers in strategy.

He waited too long to make adjustments, lost twice to pacers, consecutive years in PS, and blew a 17 pt lead in game 1 which does not bode well with upper mgmt or the fans…

It was time to go, he’s a good coach.

A defensive minded coach saddled with two starters that are targets defensively with depth that was raided to get that starting 5. Not exactly a situation that will dissuade him from his tendency to run his starters to death. Are we really surprised that they didn't get a ring?

If they can get Jay Wright, interesting. He's resisted all comers thus far though.

No it’s not when you bring in guys of the caliber of Towns and Bridges. It was their first year playing in this system with this talent as a major part of the team.

They gave up a lot to get those two, the new coach isn't going to have much opportunity to improve the roster.

Unfortunately Dolan fired Donahue a very good GM to bring in a total idiot, isiah Thomas, who effed the org for many years to come

We now have another good GM who’s puttin things together..

Imo , we’re 1 player away and a more strategic coach to win it all

How are you getting that 1 player without giving up important current pieces?

You might recall that he's been injured quite a bit. Takes away from your offseason training.

It's not the coach that improves a roster. That's on the GM.
Plus, I'm not sure how much more that they need besides health and maybe some minor tweak, if even that.
I think another year together would have seen better meshing of Brunson's and KAT's skills. But now it is up to the new coach to take that on.

You’re not the only one to say this about thibs…

And I scratch my head every time I see this because I want to know what I’m missing, what defenses did he implement other than switch ups? Which we all witnessed was to slow and got beat just about every game.

What did Thibs do differently?

It's not like it was KAT's decision, he was traded. Seems like a green GM's mistake, not looking at fit.

Firing him now reeks of the front office underestimating the Pacers and/or covering their own backsides.

Another year together isn't going to change Brunson's and KAT's inability to defend. I'm just indicating that the GM doesn't have many avenues to upgrade the roster to improve the next coach's chances.

This team is topped out as constructed IMO. They were lucky that the Celtics and Cavs fell short and certainly weren't going to be a favorite vs the Thunder. Health of other contenders is the reason they got this far.

Cmon man , Robinson has not improved one bit since thibs been his coach. Thibs does not take the time to develop a player

He's played 48 games over the past two seasons due to injury. He actually shot 68% on his FTs this year, a career high (52% career). His minutes were way down due to the roster changes (KAT). How much do you expect a guy to score that gets less than 5 shots per game? He's a career 69% shooter from the field, you expect that to grow?
