I was critical of it as well. I didn't think they were ready and it was a huge risk.
I liked the trade at the time but no doubt believed it could bite us. Obviously still could if Mitchell chooses to leave and/or just cannot get where we hope to go. But it's year 2. Not like we are in year 10 with the guy and have never even made the ECF.

It

It's not so much hindsight as it is you trying to claim a misguided personal win for yourself.
I’m 110% on the money. Adding Mitchell to Garland has quelled the development of Mobley.

I think the difference of opinion comes down to expectations.

I honestly thought Jaren Jackson Jr was his floor.

He still might be.

Unfair or not, I was expecting year 3 Chris Bosh stats.
Cannot recall the year 3 Raptors and don't feel like looking but doubt Bosh was playing with as much talent as Mobley has around him. Mobley also a better defender than year 3 Bosh. Maybe much better? don't recall.

True.

The only reason this is even a conversation is because of Mitchell’s possible free agency.

I think playing with Mitchell- and another very good big, and the injuries have limited his opportunities.

its hard for me to say he should be getting Allens shots when Allen is at 63% from the field and playing fringe All Star level basketball.

In some situations when you are 22, no matter the talent level, the keys to the car arent just gonna get handed to you- esp. if you have some injuries where you miss serious time.
I do think it's fair to say Mobley needs to be the one to be more assertive or even aggressive but that's on him and the type of guy he might be. Not on Mitchell.

It’s better to see legitimate progress and a player that has star potential actually performing like a star that can take over a game.
any reasonable/rational person can see legit progress. You just failed again and wont own you failed.

Worse.

Outside of a 5 week aberration at 18-2 they’re 28-31 and limping since the All Star break. That’s a bad team.
yeah, that's not how things work...those games count, too. Outside of our latest 7-13 stretch without our best player and 2-3 other starters in many of these games we are 39-23.

If we go into the playoffs without Mitchell or him still playing poorly then, sure, playoffs wont last long.

You’re nuts if you think any of this is good enough when it comes to the development of a superstar. This is what development should look like. Same draft.

Is this a serious comment? goin up a whopping 4 points because he's on a terrible team means he has developed more? Clearly the type of game he has has not led to winning. What happened in year 2 when there was pretty much no improvement anywhere?

Just take the L before you make this worse on yourself.

Mobley has the better 3rd year defensive rating.

Pretty much the same player he was as a rookie.
It's actually not but did you catch when Barnes still had some decent teammates around him in year 2 he showed very little improvement anywhere? Might even say he regressed a little in year 2. should the cavs go into a rebuild and just trade Mitchell as well as maybe allen so Mobley can score a few more points?

Barnes was the number one option prior to OG and Siakam getting dealt.

didn't really need to see what Bosh had done as I knew he took a big leap. Decided to look and see what I wanted to know and sure enough it seems clear why Bosh may have scored more points.....his fellow starters (by most games started) were Mo Peterson, Mike James, Charlie Villanueva and some guy named Rafael Araujo. Others who had 20+ starts were Joey Graham, Pape snow and a regressing Jalen Rose (hit 40% overall and 27% from 3). Bosh took 15 shots/game that year (same as Mike James) and made 50.5%. Mobley does only take 11 but makes 58% of them. he was in the 12-13 range before he was hurt and minutes were cut (still making 58% or so of his shots).

Toronto was also a garbage 27-55 team. Kind of like the current Toronto team and likely why Barnes was able to add 4 empty ppg to his total.

and why did he regress so much in year 2.....never mind clearly his style of play as the best player on a team does not exactly lead to winning.

another FYI in this Mitchell/Mobley discussion....don';t make the trade and likely that Sexton fellow is still on the team and he also has the ball and shoots a little, too. LM would need some touches, too.

So, the criteria for comparison has to be 3rd year guy’s improvement playing on a good team?

Cool.

Amare Stoudemire.

His team won 62 games and he played with Nash, Johnson and Shawn Marion.

I don’t see regression. I see stagnation years 1 to 2 for Barnes. Are you critical of that circumstance?
