I am happy for him.
He is a WR that earned it. Wasnt about Pedigree or potential like so many other WRs get paid for.
Lets face it. He wouldnt have 100+ receptions if he wasnt doing his job. 74 of which moved the chains.
He isnt a one trick pony. Runs all the routes of all depths. he does it with a Meh Quarterback.
Good hands. Good route runner. Sounds like a team guy (good in locker room)
Seriously. Whats not to like? The fact he wasnt a big name coming out of college? If this was a top ten pick that accomplished all he has done. Would you be asking this question still?

I am glad he got paid.

He 64 mil over 4 years is 16 mil a yr.
People claim Cooper should be getting 18 a yr & didnt even play for us the whole year. No one is questioning that.
Theilen has done more. Why question his importance to that team.

you cant compare RB receptions to WR receptions.
WRs are trying to beat their coverage (31 CBs) who is on the everyplay from beginning of play to end.
RBs dont deal with the same scenario to catch a ball unless they line up on line as a WR. They dont run all the same patterns. Honestly I see this comparison as Apples & Oranges.

The thing is, and maybe I'm wrong but....wasn't Diggs also paid pretty well recently? It's a lot of money tied into a position that I don't personally think should be. Especially since you've paid the QB to be the kind of guy who can make receivers better than they are. Maybe it's just the way it is with the contracts and such, but it's not the direction I would want to go in.

dont know what Diggs makes. I know he was drafted high while Theilen was undrafted.
I think Theilen is better than Diggs for what its worth.

just looked it up.
he is in his 2nd year of 5 yr 72 mil. (14.4 avg.)
after this year dead cap would be manageable. Not ideal but manageable. Cap hit ranges from 12 to 15 mil.

Thielen getting that much makes me feel better about AB's contract.
AB is a head case and diva.
I wouldn't feel that much better.

While that might be.....his production is what matters on the field.
As long as a team can over come the distractions.

Yeah but as we saw with PIT, it didnt overcome the off the field issues. If Oakland doesnt win it is going to be a total 360 for him and might not end well. I mean we saw in PIT he was productive and they won and still, a headcase

I think with that combo of receivers and the QB - in terms of talent and contracts - I think the Vikings offense has to be better than it was. 19th in points scored? I know there are other issues, but it just seems a lot of money tied into guys that may put up some individual numbers, but they don't seem to translate into team numbers.

Maybe getting a quality lineman or two can solidify that side of the ball.

I never argue against getting OLineman

I agree even though my team is doing the same. Difference is our QB on a rookie deal and not making $38 mil.

...and OBJ is clearly a difference-maker. Diggs and Thielen are pretty good, but on Odell's level.

Probably not on Odell's level but I do believe if Thielen were black and known for crazy antics he'd be more highly thought of.

2016: 69/967/5
2017: 91/1276/4
2018: 113/1373/9

From 3 different QBs, no less. Very few in the game that have had that kind of production in the last 3 years.

Yep...you'd like more TDs, but Julio Jones does not get a lot of TDs and has played with Ryan his entire career.

I know right.
Thielen doesn't even like the water, let alone go out on a boat.

Thelen's becoming one of the best WR's in the league. Maybe not on OBJ or Brown's level but he doesn't come with the distractions those 2 have.

@Shanemansj13 @Across The Field

what is with our fans and kickers? Every time I hear of one who becomes available we must have him (never mind we don't know if SF wants to trade Gould).

Not opposed to getting a better kicker, but you'd think Joseph was 8-12 as a rookie and didn't hit his first 50 yarder until his 4th season.....like some guy named Phil Dawson.
