Didn't see that post. I honestly have no clue how the percentages would line up, and really don't care to take an hour or two to do the math (I think you'd have to go year by year). It probably depends on where you draw the line... 6'1" and 6'2" is where you start getting a lot more QBs. Under that, the numbers drop a lot (because you have to be a really good QB to get attention under 6'1").
That's the point. 6-1 or less there aren't a lot of them. The ones who do get drafted, though, seem to succeed more often than the big guys who fail at a very high rate.

I would think you could rattle off big guys who failed in the top 1-2 rounds without having to think much about it, right? Just in the last decade.

Scouts get enamored with big dudes with big arms (see Allen), and overlook skill a lot.

I know you like your boy Baker (and with good reason), but your team had two recent "busts" of QBs 6'1" and shorter recently. Johnny and Kessler.

I wouldn't call Kessler a bust, per se, considering he was drafted at the end of the 3rd round.

That's why I quoted it. But guess who was drafted in the 3rd round and is used as an argument why Murray is going to be great?

Kessler is a bust as the 93rd pick in the draft? You still don't get the vast majority of ALL QBs drafted in round 3 amount to little or nothing?

I get scouts and even fans get enamoured with big dudes. If I hear a QB the Browns want has big arm and big as #1 trait I hope they stay clear.

So other than Manziel, how many FIRST round QBs can you name who were 6-1 or less and busts?

Well sure, but Wilson is an underdog having succeeded as much as he has, given his draft round. The comparison with Wilson will get Murray drafted high, but as I mentioned in another thread, he has never played at 207 lbs, which is something teams have to consider. Wilson has a thicker build and frame, and always played at around 200 if not more, while Murray was probably closer to 185 last year.

But the teams doing the drafting don't care about other players. Only fans do.

I really don't think teams will give wilson a thought. If they see him throw in his Pro Day and he's not accurate or moving like they hoped they might have issues and drop him down......especially throwing against air with no rush.

Cade McNown and Rex Grossman are the only 2 I can think of.

None. Because I think there are only 2 other ones. Baker and Vick. Vick was just a freak athlete at the time.

We could go all day naming busts who were considered to be big QBs in round 1. Browns since return drafted 2 short guys in round 1 and were 1-2.

At best were 0-2 with big QBs and that's giving couch a pass for injury issues.

And that's the point.....sure there are less short QBs in the league, but when they are worthy of going in round 1 they succeed at a higher rate than bigger guys it seems.

A few things Im picking up watching Kyler Murray is that:

1) Yeah, I'm worried about him staying healthy in the NFL at that size
2) His bread and butter is leading receivers with short throws and super-accurate back-shoulder deep throws.
3) He doesn't step up in the pocket much
4) He is easily the most accurate QB coming out this year
5) Good arm talent but relies on it too much compared to footwork. Wont be able to 'Mahomes it' in the NFL.
6) One of the best runners at the QB position I've ever seen

I don't know how you weigh all of those variables together. If you're the Jags or Giants and you draft him, you try to win your Super Bowls on that first contract. There is no way his body is holding up for ten years in the NFL but maybe you have a modern Rich Gannon for 3-5 years and you can look like a genius if you draft him and he stays healthy.

Have probably said this nearly every day, Clayton.....just glad my team doesn't need to worry about it.

Jets looking to trade down but if they can get Quinnen Williams at 3 that would be a great get. If he were to go 2...I look over my options to trade. I'm sure they could get quite a good return.

I think they can trade down and land another edge guy... I think the QB's are going to go crazy first just because of the lack of talent, then a OT, This is a defensive loaded draft this year...

I picked Rosen as the best of the class. Thought Allen was trash, indifferent on Darnold, and didn't think much of Baker. I never ranked them, but I probably would have went Rosen, Darnold, Baker, Allen.

Looks bad now, but we've seen QBs look bad their rookie year, and rebound, just as we've seen QBs come out on fire, only to sizzle. I'll revisit it in a couple years.

There have been 3 QBs under 6'1" do anything since 2000. Brees, Vick, and Wilson. Wilson was the only one under 6'. Murray may break the mold. I wouldn't be the GM to risk a top 10 pick on the potential for a "first ever".

My rankings that I recall were: 1a Darnold, 1b Baker, Rosen, Allen but I wasn't a fan of Rosen or Allen.

Teams are going to want to trade up for a QB...very desperate to fight over guys like Murray, Haskins or Lock. I think a lot of teams early can benefit and get their DLineman. This draft is stacked with DLineman/edge guys.

Yeah totally, Jets can rebuild their Oline pretty damn quick this year with trades...
