Well all of the closings and shit aren't done for shits and giggles. In some cases it is better to be safe and labelled overreactive than sorry and labelled unprepared. Shit is going to get real along the coast and the Hudson, and we are lucky to be able to actually know about it and prepare for it.

From what I understand (and my friends in the biz usually downplay this stuff) this is going to be really bad.

Just because nothing major happens (hopefully) I do not think the precautions taken are necessarily over reactions. Within reason, its better to be safe than sorry and we have seen a lot of officials raked over the coals in recent years for not being prepared for emergency events.
