When the Big XII was formed Texas proposed slashing the amount of time coaches could be on the road recruiting. The goal was to hurt Nebraska so it was an easy sell to the other AD's who'd been getting their asses handed to them for decades...

What those other AD's didn't take into consideration was that Texas coaches spent little time on the road recruiting. The Texas kids came to them.

Possibly. But they still pursue kids that always wanted to be Longhorns. There will ALWAYS be a number of those kids available in this state. The question is whether the top tier talent will be in that same pool. Lets face it......regardless of the team's record, this is still an easy sell to a recruit. Top notch facilities, a proven track record of putting kids in the pros, and a great school to sell to parents. All in a decent city to live in. You have to almost not recruit at all to not get any talent here.

Geeez, what do you have to do to only win 1 NC in 40 years?

No, you have to be the face of college football for a large portion of a state that churns out college recruits at an astounding pace. NC's are icing on the cake.

Texas will always be a top destination (short of a major scandal), especially for kids in state. however, with transportation being easier and more games being on TV I see the fear of never getting to see their son play ball diminishing. I'm not trying to say that one season for A&M is going to undo a century of Texas history and recruiting power, but in the future being able to use the "don't you want to be able to watch your son play every weekend" selling point will keep losing power. More and more kids will start to see other teams every weekend and will be less inclined to be die hard, Texas or bust, kids. There will still be some, just as all schools have them. I think tying their hands with a "take it now or leave forever" attitude is a tough sell.

I don't think that's really a selling point they even try to make. Whether Texas wins or not, they're putting starting players into the NFL yearly. Austin sells itself.......along with the richest program in the country. Football ALONE made 100 million in revenue last year, a first in the history of the NCAA. Top notch facilities. Legendary ex players and legacy. The TV and distance angle really doesn't mean anything.

Everything you stated is true. I like that you can't say come here and win a NC! Unless you qualify it by stating "every 40 years or so"

;-)

Outside of Bama, nobody can really sell that either. Your trolling attempt is pretty weak.

How is that trolling?

Michigan, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Georgia, BYU, Georgia Tech, Washington, and Ohio St can all make that selling statement as well.

How is it trolling? Texas won the NC in 2005. I don't see any of you attempting to count the years between titles of every school in D1.

It's a pretty weak troll attempt at that.

Lighten up Fransis. One NC in 40 years is pitiful for the great and mighty Texas.

So is never winning an ACC division title..

Technically we did last year. But really I don't care about conference titles without a NC attached. That is what makes Canes fans different. You can have your "10 win" seasons, all I care about is NCs and on that front, Miami is superior.

Than Texas. More NCs (modern era). Most Texas fans love to tout their success. I say what success? 1 NC in forty years.

Uhhh where? Cause most Texas fans talk about the lack of success, especially of late. You just sound like a miamuh fan butthurt towards the Longhorns, for whatever reason.
