I guess Dane Dunning and Patrick Murphy had the best outings as far as pitchers went today.

Maybe Sam Haggerty can prove to be good enough to take Taveras' spot in the roster.

In Evan Grant 's artcle today it sounds as if Bochy is considering not having Semien hot leadoff. I don't know if he will decide for awhile.

Maybe he is leadoff against LHP and Carter against RHP

Evan suggested Wyatt Langford could hit leadoff at times.

He would probably make a good leadoff hitter with his speed and contact skills, may not be the best use of his power but time will tell on that...

From Shawn McFarland:

Jack Leiter’s fastball topped 99.7 mph (and elicited a flyout). His changeup reached 93.9 mph, and he made Jung Hoo Lee look silly with a slider in the dirt.

A couple of errant pitches, but, the gas was there.

Hauver, Foscue and Harris with our only hits through 7 innings. Hauver hit a HR and Foscue hit a double.

From Shawn McFarland:

It felt like Jack Leiter was just playing catch out there. The radar gun said he was throwing 98 mph.

On Leiter’s revamped offseason regimen, and how it’s led to “effortless” velocity early in camp.

“It’s pretty cool to see.”

From Shawn McFarland:

Leiter, at the advice of the organization, slowed down his offseason ramp up. He wanted to be game-ready when he arrived at camp in previous years and, in turn, amped his velocity up in January. This year he took it slower in an effort to leave himself more gas left in the tank by season’s end. Leiter ramped up through “velocity ranges” and didn’t spin his breaking balls as early in the offseason as he did in prior years. For example: He threw his fastball 88-90 mph in the first week of January, 89-92 mph in the second week and didn’t hit 95-96 mph until his last few bullpens before he left for camp.

Each of Leiter’s four pitches ran multiple miles per hour faster on Saturday than they did last year. His fastball averaged 98.8 mph (compared to 96.4 mph last season) and reached 99.9 mph in the fourth inning. His slider ran 89.2 mph (up 2.4 mph from last season) and he threw one in the dirt to force Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee into a foolish looking swing and miss strikeout. His changeup was nearly three miles per hour faster at 92.4 mph and reached 93.9 mph.

It would be great to go into the next offseason knowing Bradford, Rocker and Leiter belong in the rotation and that Teodo, Santos, and Rosario were knocking at the door. Not to mention Kohl Drake.

Then we wouldn't have to spend a penny on the rotation.

Folks better not sleep on him. If he can put it all together, he'll be dynamic. Even if he never fully develops the kind of consistency we'd like, he could still be a pretty salty pitcher just because his stuff is nasty.

Bradford has all but cemented himself as part of the future rotation, and Rocker should get plenty of opportunity from the jump.
Leiter will be an interesting guy to watch. Don't think he makes the team initially out of camp (assuming no injuries to guys like deGrom and Eovaldi), but a hot month in the minors and an injury to one of the starters might just give Leiter the chance to seize a spot and never give it up.
