We may have what we got but at a minimum I expect some MILB contracts added
Adding a closer or a trade is a flip of the coin and at this point I expect nothing

Agree on the closer. If we were to sign one it would have been before now IMO.

I know you guys won't believe this, but Anthony Rendon is hurt and will miss an extended part of the season. Hip surgery, I believe.

From Jeff Wilson:

A little news from #Rangers camp: LHP Robert Garcia, added in the Nathaniel Lowe trade, won't throw for a few days because or nerve irritation in his forearm. Little concern at this point.

From Scott Lucas:

Barely four years after the Nathaniel Lowe trade, neither Texas nor Tampa has anyone from that swap in its organization.

He pitched well last year at the MLB level. Once they make room I would think he would be on the roster.
Agreed. Texas has now signed 4 relievers (Chargois, Webb, Martin, Chavez) that had a 3.50 ERA or below last year, as well as acquired others who have solid potential (Milner and Curvelo), as well as having traded for a young, talented guy like Robert Garcia.
At the very least, this should be a bullpen with a very high floor - meaning they should at least have a stable of relatively solid, reliable arms.
Obviously we still have a huge question mark at closer. Here's hoping a guy like Jon Gray (if they move him to the pen) or Garcia snag that job. I like Martin quite a bit, but as the setup guy.

The thought is that they may release him after this season instead of letting him take up a 40-man spot in the final year of his contract.
Another butt kicking for the Angels. But I will admit most of us wanted the Rangers to sign him after the Nationals won the pennant and the year he had. He seemed like a sure thing. So we dodged a bullet on that one.

From Evan Grant:

To hear the manager Wednesday, he is very much considering trying to bring an idyllic bullpen utopia to life, a place where pitchers can be plugged into situations that call for their specific skill sets rather than a caste system with defined roles. Every manager who doesn’t have a set closer considers the idea; most ultimately determine that relievers’ desire for role definition wins out. In theory, a role-free bullpen would allow Bochy to deploy relievers, based on arm side, arsenal and pitch repertoire to best align with the specific immediate task ahead of the club, rather than holding guys back for a more defined situation that may not ultimately present itself.

While Bochy hasn’t yet talked to his pool of veteran relievers, he’s not sure he needs to. He’s got a group of seven veterans that includes Martin, Robert Garcia, Shawn Armstrong, Hoby Milner, Jacob Webb, Jesse Chavez and JT Chargois (both signed to minor league deals recently) that have been more flexible about usage.

“These guys are fine without having a defined role,” Bochy said. “They are used to it, including Chris. I think they all have a great attitude. They say ‘Hey, we’re there to get outs; use us where you need us to help win a ball game. And that’s how that works. If you get some guys that just have a hard time with that and they want that defined role, you can run into some problems, but I don’t see that happening with this bullpen.”

At least, if the relievers don't have set roles we won't have to watch a guy get beat up 9 or 10 times in a row in the 9th inning simply because he has the title of "closer."
