Will say this. Great starting pitching helps mitigate substandard pen to some degree
Still need a closer and another late innings guy
During the regular season yes, but not in the playoffs. You can have a great bullpen in the playoffs and you’ll still see the 4 out close.

pretty sure every available name is going to be thrown out there.

much like the draft, i really don't have a lot of patience for "who will the Rangers sign?" talking heads making a lot of money coming up with guesses that are usually worse that what us freelancers do here.
Ahhh yes I am even a wannnabe freelancer

They could put Gray and maybe Perez out in the pen if a bullpen pitcher is more valuable. They might make a great set up/closer duo.

A bullpen arm isn’t more valuable..
Burke was good in the bullpen role, don’t want to mess with a good thing.
Perez and Gray are good starters, I would assume to leave them in the Starting role.

I get your point, but we have the resources to acquire SP, I’d assume to do that.

Now if we had multiple high earning players underperforming and injured, coupled with a depleted weak farm system i would assume we wouldn’t have the resources to acquire SP and maybe moving Burke to the rotation would be a good idea to shore up then rotation while operating under restrictive resources.

We also have the resources to acquire relief pitchers, and you can acquire more relief pitchers than starting pitchers for a given amount of resources.

We should just sign relief pitchers then and plug them into the rotation lol

I won’t be upset if Burke opens the year in the rotation.
It would be kind of exciting.
Just hate to mess with a good thing

I 99% expect him to stay in the pen.

I have noticed a lot of successful teams that have good SP had them in the bullpen their first year or 2 then then the rotation.

Robert and Starr may be future bullpen pieces along with Church and Lee.

Looking forward to their progression. Grant Anderson & Fernery Ozuna as well.
Daniel Robert will definitely need to cut down on the BB/9

general consensus seems to be the Rangers made a fantastic hire.

ironically, the Rangers contingent appears to be pissed off. They wanted Mark DeRosa, and a few are actually bemoaning the fact that JD is no longer here because "he would have hired MDR, no question."

This speaks very well to CY ability to make coming here something to be desired. Bochy could have very easily stayed retired.

That should help a lot with future free agents, including the pitcher from Japan.
