RE: Taveras, Thompson, Duran and Smith

After this post I am through discussing how these four guys should fit into the Rangers plans. Here, I will simply compare their minor league numbers, because at least 3 of these guys have not had enough big league at bats to judge them based on a very small sample size of big league at bats. So, comparing their minor league numbers is the only way to compare them at this point. The difference in the first guy and the second one is not even close and there is no doubt who I would choose with that much difference. The difference in the second and third guy is small enough for there to be some debate, but I would still choose the second guy. The difference in the third and fourth guys is more than the previous difference and was done without nearly as much experience, therefore, give me the third guy over the fourth one.

.921 OPS in 600 AB
.816 OPS in 1300 AB
.771 OPS in 1400 AB
.711 OPS in 2400 AB

The numbers speak for themselves so I am through discussing names.

I think the biggest chance of improvement, from their minor league numbers to their eventual major league numbers, is with the second guy. He may be an MVP candidate some day. He may not ever win it, but he will be considered. The first guy, however, has a chance to be a World Series MVP if he ever gets to play on a World Series team. He also has a chance to compete for a batting title in the next 3 years. The third and fourth guys would make great late innings replacements in a World Series if Ron Washington isn't managing.

I still think I would go with Leody over Smith. He did hit .261 and has shown more power.

I'm guessing his skepticism is because Leody had basically 1 good month July and the rest was meh, he tailed off quite a bit at the end...

HNY guys. I don’t mind a defense first CF be it Leody or Bubba but eventually we need a guy playing LF who is a top to middle of the order guy who hits

If Carter eventually becomes our CF with bat and defense that is ideal

I don't either as long as he can steal some bases and have close to a .330-.350 OBP so you can put him in different places in the lineup...

but eventually we need a guy playing LF who is a top to middle of the order guy who hits

I don't really care where he hits just as long as he gets on base and drives in runs when it matters...

Some guys only have success at the plate when it really doesn't matter much, can you say Joey Gallo... :D

If Carter eventually becomes our CF with bat and defense that is ideal

It would be but I don't think he'll be ready until 2024 sometime and so the team needs one of the others to step up in the meantime...

Bubba needs a little more time. Will be sad to waste his speed. Hope this year will work out for him.

Hopefully he isn't the next Billy Hamilton...

Thinking not only player acquisitions but mgr and coaxing acquisitions have elevated team to be considered a playoff contender

A couple of bats and I agree with you. We have to win those 1 run games we have been losing. New pitching will help but more offense and we will be on the way.
