I know there was some “Heaney is mediocre” talk, but it’s so damn refreshing to know that an in demand pitcher with 10 different offers on the table chose the RANGERS and we didn’t even offer the most money.

from 2009-2012 when we had the best lineup in baseball, pitchers still avoided us like the plague. We had to trade for cliff lee. We had to draft or develop everyone else.

things are changing folks.

Just because he chose less gross dollars in a contract doesn't mean he'll earn less, you have to remember the difference in tax laws...

No roster move yet?

Sborz, Miller, White, King???

I'm guessing Sborz then King, don't think they'll part with either of the other 2 until they add another OFer to the mix...

Maybe a trade can happen lessening up a spot or two. With the pitching acquired I don’t Howard sniffs th MLB until he proves himself

They probably have a day or 2 to swing one before they have to add Heany, he has to pass a physical first...

Another OF option off the table...

But you have to wonder what a physical might find concerning his shoulder

I wonder what the Rangers plans are with Heaney?
32 starts 165 innings ?
Or 10 starts and 30 relief appearances 120-140 innings?

With his fragile arm, I would think switching back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen would be the worst thing to do with him.

Judge is said to have turned down higher offers. He choose between the Yankees, Giants and Padres in the end.

I could see the Rangers getting frustrated enough with his health to convert him to a reliever in 2024 when White and/or Leiter is ready. Kent, Bradford, Winn, and Englert could be ready by then as well.

Why would they alternate?

Not necessarily switch back and forth but maybe start the year as a starter then move to the bullpen in June when the bullpen starts to get taxed and arms aren’t as fresh.
Lots of SP depth.. just curious how they plan on deploying it

I would want a AAA rotation of:

Burke
Ragans
Winn
Kent
Cody
Bradford
White

The Frisco Rotation

Englert
Vanasco
Roby
Garcia
Leiter
Acker

The Hickory Rotation

Bratt
Kindreich
Rocker
Stephan
Santos
Teodo

It will be interesting to see how these rotations shake out now that both Dunning and Otto have been pushed down to AAA.

For one thing, Burke will never see a rotation in this organization so he is out of that AAA rotation, but I had one too many guys there to begin with. Also, I think Cody and maybe even Bradford could be taken in the Rule 5 draft this afternoon.

I thought we might lose some pitchers in a trade for a pitcher, but for now, it doesn't look like we will be trading for a pitcher this offseason.

I didn't even include Howard or Kelly in these rotations when I made them. I thought they would be moved to create more room on the 40 man. They are still here, for now.

I guess the group of fans that have always been obsessed with making a blockbuster trade for a pitcher had a rough day yesterday when the Rangers rounded out their rotation without a trade. Jamey Newberg was in this group along with a bunch of fans I have encountered on Twitter.

I doubt Otto starts out in AAA

Still wonder what was offered
I think he believes in himself and fully expects a big multi year deal a year from now.

Taillon didn't get a QO so he really can't be compared to Perez. Next year Martin will not have to deal with a QO to scare teams off.
