I do not like the idea of a contract with Kershaw based soley on his injuries. Certainly in the case of a multi year deal as EG stated in the video. In a perfect world, he is a SP we all would relish but no one knows if he will be physically ready to pitch every five days. The risk does not warrant the unknown when we have better options with no injury risk for the money Kershaw will demand.
I have read where others think he will take a one year deal in order to secure a more lucrative, longer term deal a year from now.

That is what I do not want to have happen with his injury history. We have experienced this before re: Fielder

Because I think tanking is bad for baseball
Can you be more specific? How exactly would the A's holding onto those players, who will be gone in free agency in 2 more years, benefit all of baseball?

The A's are a club that has operated like this for years. Even in doing so they have only had 7 losing seasons in the last 21 years.

There is a finite number of resources in baseball. There are other clubs who will benefit from the A's trading those players. It isn't like those players won't be useful somewhere else. What if 4 of those players go to 4 teams and make them more competitive? Doesn't the game as a whole benefit from that?

The A's will retool and be good again in not more than 2 or 3 years. It is the holding on to mediocrity for several years that is bad for an individual team. What is bad for individual teams is bad for the sport, when enough of them are in that shape.

Fielder had a long term contract and we had to give up a player to get him. This is nothing like that at all.

Yes it because of injuries. He was never what we thought we would get out of him unless I am thinking about someone else. I remember we talked about not getting a physical on him. I am not talking about what we did or not give for him. Just that we got stung b/c of injury.

We paid an injured Fielder for seven years. If Kershaw gets hurt we would have to pay him for one year. You can't see what a huge difference that is?

So, you see the Corey Kluber mistake being as bad as the Fielder mistake?

I think you get the point and he could be signed multi yrs after the 1st year.

No I didn't get the point because that is a separate conversation entirely. Why worry about that now?

White gave up 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 4.

I would love a very talented UIF and you really need one on a WS caliber team. I do think IKF versatility defensively is a huge plus. But his bat has not proved valuable and really below average. Don’t think the book is closed on him.
I think he would be better hitting somewhere near the bottom of the order, less pressure and pitchers relaxing a bit thinking the tough stuff is behind them...

I am wondering where our top 5 pitching prospects will start the year. Maybe like this.

Winn at AAA
Vanasco at AA
Leiter at AA
White at High A
Roby at High A

I think teams trying to lose is bad. Re the A’s trading all pitchers before the season even starts is bad. Season ticket holders want to see a competitive product. We have teams turning a profit due to revenue sharing.
Reminiscing of the old days prior to Free agency where you had a player for their career with the team they started on. It is heading the way of basketball where all the best players head to one team. I don’t like this
Trying to lose is a bad example to our younger generation and not competing unless you have a chance to win is bad too

I don’t mind when out of the race letting your young guys plays but gutting a team before the season starts is not the way baseball was or should be.
