MLB really wants expanded playoffs so I think they will be more flexible today. That way they can still get in a full season, which the players have said is necessary for an expanded playoffs this season. The question is, will they be flexible enough for the players?

12 is already expanded though, and many would say too much. I haven't seen anyone that thinks a 14 team postseason is a good thing.

Yeah, I just meant the only way they could expand the playoffs at all in 2022 would probably be to get a deal done today. If they don't agree today, the earliest would be 2023 that they could go to 12.

agree to maintaining the existing playoff set-up for 2022 and then expanding it to 12 teams in the following years
