the sooner a deal is struck, the sooner all that can begin. But it will be a madhouse either way.
i would think that would be impossible to have a quality ST while half your 40-man roster is involved in arbitration hearings and your ownership and management is involved in any Free Agent dealings,

Well there is a lot to do even if they settle next week. What happens with rule 5?

it'll just be a more concise version. if anything, it'll probably be a more structured and streamlined version of ST.

EDIT: forgot to mention that most of the player contracts will be settled before ST starts..

i forgot about that. that's another factor that has to be looked at.
I hope they skip rule 5 but yes all the player negotiation needed. It’s going to be crazy

Will be crazy on this site too!

i would be concerned about what kind of shape the players, especially the pitchers, if we rush ST even if as you say we try to have a more structured and streamlined it may be. pitching always comes in needing the seasoning of spring training to prep it. what do we do with the opening roster? increase it to 28, 30, 32 or more to allow more pitching staff?

and what the physical preparedness of the positional players?

i counted over 59 Free Agents that will be looking for contracts with a lot of them being considered quality FA's who will be fielding offers and interviews from a large number of teams. it will be damn near impossible

I follow a few on Instragram. From what I've seen most players maintain a training regimen the entire offseason.

i know but that regime is usually intensified during the weeks prior to ST and during the ST the training staff works to insure they are stretched out and ready before opening day. i am not sure but it seemed like there were a lot of injuries during the early part of the 2020 season because the players weren't physically prepared when the season suddenly restarted

As it stands, I'm not concerned about a truncated Spring Training. 2020 probably isn't a accurate comparison because Spring Training started on time, and then was canceled for 3+ months, and then had to kick into high gear in July. This year, fingers crossed, things start a couple of weeks behind schedule and proceed normally.

i hope you're right but i can see them realistically cutting the season down to 100 to 120 games to allow for all this. of course, the players should expect truncated seasonal pay for every game lost

The players have said if there isn't a 162 game season, they will pull their approval of expanded postseason.

Yes if this is not fixed soon alot is the season will be lost. Not just a few games

That being said if we take MLB and MLBPA at good faith they are meeting daily next week to knock something out.

We shall see how the next meeting goes

oh well they can't have it both ways. unless they move the entire season deeper into October and November there's no way to have a 162-game and conduct the rest of the off-season stuff and a ST. moving ST to March 5th has to automatically impact the start of the regular season and thus move the end of the season further into October. with the way the climate is changing some teams could be playing their end of the season and any playoff games in winter weather type conditions. what do they do move the playoff games to domed stadiums or the fair-weather states?

They will most likely get it out of the way very shortly after an agreement is reached.

Yeah, they didn't have to have a lockout. They could have just waited for a season ending players strike in a few months. That way they could have gotten a chance to miss another postseason.

It takes such a small amount of time that I am thinking they will most likely have it.
