He's in the Top 10 in WAR...
It is Gallos OPS and defense that if you grade that way puts him higher despite dismal average
I can definitely see both standpoints especially in a close game where you need contact

Having a bunch of strike out guys in a town like Yanks is not very balanced.
Don’t be fooled though. There is a place in the league for Gallo

What excuses per say?

Does look like per author more SP is needed to at least eat innings. Wouk not be surprised if Lyles returned

No excuses for not signing a high quality free agent.

Yes, the innings-eater-pitcher-need is a very popular viewpoint. The get-our-pitchers-big-league-innings-before-the-big-boys-are-ready viewpoint is not popular at all. The former is great if you want to win a handful more games in 2022. The latter is great if you want to make sure you keep the best when it comes time for Winn, Leiter and Vanasco.

I added it to my signature, but I think that only shows up on a PC, and not on a phone. I will add it occasionally to the bottom of my posts that deal with free agent signings.

A guy like Howard might need more time in AAA

He can be an innings eater for us, three innings per game, after the real starter goes 3 to 4 innings. Doing that for a couple of months would help to lessen the total innings of a young starter. After that you ramp him up to 5 or 6 innings for another 2 months or so, and then shut him down and bring someone up from the minors to finish the last three weeks or so of the season.

I just think it is better for him to polish up if possible in AAA. If he is a hopeless case then fine let home eat innings.
Learning to win is needed too. Let’s not guys who are ready get blocked but if they are ill equipped then let’s not bring them up

It is possible that the Rangers could make every effort and still come up empty.
It would most likely have to be a perfect storm type scenario. I really doubt if they are willing to quickly offer market value, for the number of years the market dictates, that they will come up short. They do have to be proactive and not sit back and view the landscape for awhile.

This is a year like no other from three different standpoints. We have a ton of room in the budget. We have most likely the biggest selection of top names in many, many years. We have lots of needs.

Therefore, no excuses accepted and none should be given.

I can see a scenario where we do not get top 3 shortstops but do think we will add FAs. There will be a credibility issue if they don’t

The only starting pitchers I am thinking might make their big league debuts in 2022 are Winn, Henriquez, and Rodriguez. We might see Winn by July and the other two by late August or early Sept. There are also some other guys who might push their way up, but I am not considering them at this point.

We always add free agents.

So please clarify which free agents would and would not be acceptable. Are you saying it would be inexcusable to not add one of the top 3 shortstops?

Maybe they get story for 7/$175 $25 a year into his age 35 season. Having incentives the first part of the contract worth $15 million total.
With 3 mutual options valued at $22-$20-$18 taking him into age 38 season and retired.
It would be reported as a 10 year $250 million deal at first, of course for the headlines and what not.

The thing that I have heard was they were trying to get his motion/delivery straightened out so they might decide he needs to do it there if he has an iffy ST…

Tough thing about these contracts these days are the opt out clauses that favor the players

I would hate to have a player be able to opt out in year 2 and start over

Yes he has done quite a bit of tweaking. Time in AAA as a no question starter and with a set delivery may help. I know it seems like he is a guy who can go more than a few innings but I think if possible he needs to see some success before pitching again in the majors
