So, what is the minimum this organization needs to do, non-monetarily-wise, between now and November to convince Trevor Story to consider coming here. Is it simply a matter of having enough young guys play well enough to offer a bright near-future?

Would we have to make a quick strike in free agency to show we are serious about turning this thing around quickly?

I know, monetarily, we have to not go the route of offering him less money and less years than he is expected to get. In other words, no Rendon treatment.

On mlbtraderumors.com I read that Elvis' option year still has to be vested by playing time. It had been reported that if he was traded, that it vested automatically. I guess that was wrong and that is what made him tradeable.

I thought I read that this trade saves them a few million in the grand scheme of things.
it does in 2022 with Davis coming off the books. in 2021, they actually added 2M which covers Heim & Ackers addition + they are paying $13.5M of Elvis' salary over 2021 & 2022

still need a viable 3rd base option so either Brock Holt or Jake Lamb on a cheap 1 year deal

This MY post brings home the tenure of Elvis and really the enthusiasm he brought.
Because if this tenure and Beltre departure he was sort of expected to fill the leadership void but in retrospect his was not a part of his leadership style

I am still struck by the realization that these guys get to play a game and earn a living that was so fun for us in our youth.
Elvis represented this well having fun and really leading Beltre in this area IMO.

It was obviously the right move but the Rangers lost some enthusiasm yesterday and this is something I find in short supply these days. Best wishes

To be honest that in any big game especially in the playoffs and in the latter innings any ball hit to Elvis made me nervous. I felt like he would either boot it or thrown it in the dirt and it seemed to happen quite often or that is my perception anyway. Probably because of that Toronto series. Even though he brought enthusiasm and he seemed to be a great human being I am not broken hearted by his departure.

From a pure baseball basis. I agree whole heartedly. Definitely not a winning piece in the Jay series. Not sure what lies ahead but definitely time to move on.

Side note. Rather have players to get it done in the clutch than win popularity contests with sideline reporters.

No, that isn't what I meant. Having a stop gap for a half of this season will not have any effect on FA next fall.

Heim could easily have a long term future with club and Trevino get traded if we find value. We have a lot of good options at catcher
Area of strength currently
