I surely don't want our prospects getting sparse playing time but rostered. Elvis can take the utility role. We have a vet Culberson in the wings. Really doubt if Odor starts. Much ado about nothing
Yes, the prospects need to play everyday when they are brought up. It would be detrimental to their development to bring them up and put them on the bench. Elvis and Roogie aren't blocking anyone if they are backups.

i'll wait and see before i start degrading the signing. but it probably means that Gibson or Lyles or both get traded before the season starts. even right now our starting pitching is Gibson, Lyles, Dunning, Arihara & ? Allard probably needs to be at AAA, Benjamin & Cody are both probably a year away.

who exactly is he blocking? not one of our young pitchers is close to being ready for prime time. the closest is probably Allard and Palumbo. Allard showed that he needs another year at AAA to fine tune his stuff and Palumbo probably does too. everyone else is at least 2 years away so Arihara's 2 year deal fills that gap and if someone is ready earlier he can be traded etc

in your opinion. apparently as for as 2021 is concerned the team doesn't feel as comfortable with them as you do. o don't claim to know how close they are to being ready but Allard got beat up last season and isn't even been penciled in for 2021, Cody has never pitched above AA except for a few games last year neither has Phillips. Dunning will be in starting rotation in 2021. i am all for seeing the young guys up but not throwing them to the wolves like you

i think of the David Clyde's that we rushed into the starting rotation and ruined but you seem hellbent on rushing them no matter

damn i want to see the young guys this year but with Gibson, Lyles, Andrus, Odor and others occupying roster spots it seems that we're going to have issues with seeing them until after September 1 which sucks

What ab

What about Taveras or Benjamin or Palumbo for a few?
You seem to have really changed your mind about who should be ready to pitch this year over the last few days.

i would rather see Gibson and Lyles gone but i also recognized that they are virtually untradeable so we will see Gibson, Lyles, Arihara, Dunning with one of Allard, Benjamin, Cody or some other as the #5. i would rather see us go with the last 5 as our opening day rotation but that isn't going to happen

Before you were saying Palumbo, Cody, Benjamin and probably Allard all needed another year in the minors. Now you seem to be ready for most of those four to pitch for us now. People change their minds, but you seemed very adamant in the opposite position just days ago. I guess you just thought some more about it and decided differently.

I agree and the thing I am keeping my eyes in is innings pitched especially for the young guys. Ultimately I think there will be plenty of innings to go around and also heard that some piggybacking starters could happen. Guessing that is a long shot though

Funny thing about that Arenado trade. STL has a great 3B prospect but he was not included yet when we were in speculative talks Jung was mentioned. Sure looks like CO got desperate

Yes I did but now I’m in favor of going total rebuild and putting the kids out there and have them go for it along with Huff, Jung, Taveras etc. learn at AAA or at the MLB level. We are no better than AAAA team right now so go for it

So much tanking is bad for baseball but unfortunately is a result of free agency and revenue sharing

I am not sure how some differentiate between tanking and rebuilding. To me, rebuilding is necessary at times. I don't think our team recognized this nearly early enough and that is one of my biggest problems with ownership and upper management.

Since the three years of disappointing postseasons in the 90s, I have never been a fan of trying to do just enough to have a chance to get into the postseason and hope everything aligns once you are in. I want our team to be either building a WS championship caliber team, or to be fielding such a team. When we get so far away from that goal that a free agent or two isn't going to be the difference, then it is time to rebuild. If that requires trading away good players, then so be it. Trading Teixeira was genius, holding onto Beltre after 2013, not so much. We also held onto Minor too long, although he never fit into the same category as the other two.

The problem with rebuilding comes when you are not good to great at drafting and developing. We have struggled in that area with some exceptions.

I have no problems with smart rebuilding at all. I sincerely hope we continue doing just that and that we are getting better at development. Even with both of those, at some point, we are going to have to be the top bidder for a couple of great free agents and a good one or two as well. That is a lot more feasible, financially, if you can surround those free agents with several young, cheap, homegrown, talented players.

Pragmatically speaking I have no argument. Back in the day, players stayed with their team and there were fewer trades. You had to rely on the farm vs free agency.
Built better local identity for the players and loyalty. To me this has appeals. Yet for sure there was some downside

From MLB Trade Rumors:
  • Spencer Patton is throwing an improved change-up with the hopes of bringing three viable pitches out of the bullpen, per Robert Murray of FanSided. The 32-year-old right-hander led Nippon Professional Baseball with 57 appearances last season, which is no small feat to MLB teams aware of the perils in ramping up pitcher workloads in 2021. Patton’s numbers from Japan won’t blow you away, however, with a 4.92 ERA, respectable 28.1 percent strikeout rate, and slightly-concerning 11.7 percent walk rate. Patton will throw for teams again on February 2nd, with the Braves, Rays, Angels, Royals, Rangers, and Giants being among the teams to have shown some interest thus far.

This mock draft has us taking Florida OF Jud Fabian. I wouldn't mind that right now. Let's see how things shake out over the next few weeks.

MLB Pipeline has us ranked with 3 players in the top 100, but none in the top 50.

Maybe next year
There is a chance all three of those guys will no longer be prospects a year from now. Hopefully, our first round pick goes to the top 50. Maybe Crouse, Winn and Foscue do enough this year to climb up at least into the top 100.

I don’t think Dunning will but think the other 2 will. I don’t think they get too much time in MLB this year. Hopefully the others make some positive strides
