JD found our third baseman.

you have to look past his numbers last year
If you look at 2018 he appeared in 111 games and put up a .173/.269/.216 split in 160 plate appearances.
It’s not much.. but he may break camp as our starting 3B.
I like this signing

Looking more and more likely we will band aide our infield very much like 2019. JD has helped the rotation and OF but has failed to shore up the IF thus far. Not sure if they have given up on Guzman all together.

I fear that they’re going to give Guzman the same freedom and trust that they give odor.

Guzman needs a platoon or “ training wheels” of some kind. I just don’t trust him to hit well enough to justify playing him everyday.

Seager had a terrible 2018, then suffered a hand injury in spring training in 2019, which hurt his production early in the season. He hit .260/.339/.524 in the second half, however, with 17 home runs in 68 games. One of the teams that loses out on Donaldson -- the Nationals, Braves and Twins appear to be the top contenders -- could turn to Seager, though the Mariners would have to eat a portion of what remains on his contract ($19 million in 2020, $18 million in 2021 and a $15 million player option for 2022 that kicks in if he's traded).

He seems like a solid stopgap... i would say he's always hit well in Arlington, but new stadium and all

maybe Heineman platoons with Guzman at 1B. Maybe a 50/50 split.
Heineman vs all LHP and righty pitchers who don’t do well against righty hitters.
Guzman against all the other righties.
They could probably each get 300 plate appearances.

Lets just say they swing a trade for Seager (optimistic) and roll with Guzman they would probably have average to above average offensive production at all but 2 spots

C - Chirinos (above)
1B - Guzman (below probably)
2B - Odor (below to average)
3B - Seager (average to above)
SS - Andrus (average to above)
LF - Calhoun (above hopefully)
CF - Santana (above)
RF - Gallo (above)
Choo - Choo (above)

This is based on career trends and last year, but things like player growth in the case of Guzman or Calhoun have to be considered and are we getting 2017 or 2019 Andrus... and Odor is the ultimate crapshoot

I would be ok with a Heineman/Guzman platoon, also Heineman in the COF spots, spot CF duty

I like the idea of Seager over Castellanos by far

Ultimately depends on what the Mariners want... really don't care if they pay any of the contract

Guzman had a .790 OPS against right handed pitching..
If he improves just slightly he could be very effective
If he and Heineman were to platoon
What kind of cumulative stats do you think they could put up over 600 plate appearances? Heineman vs all LHP and RHP who don’t farewell vs righties.. it happens and it would allow an even split.
Guzman vs most but not all RHP

.265/.345/.455 .800 OPS with 20 home runs and 85 RBI?

roughly 300 AB each.
Guzman .255/.335/.445 with 12 HR
Heineman .275/.355/.465 with 8 HR

plausible?

That is not bad with the exception of 2B .That group has potential to jump start us into contention again without selling the farm. "If we get Seager" is the question.

So let's trade for Mancini and stick Odor at 9 in the order

I think a trade for Seager would eliminate Mancini in that scenario

But with Seager i can live with Guzman/Heineman at 1B in a platoon but Mancini at 1B leaves a much bigger problem at 3B, than vice versa, at least to me

Plausible and i think Guzman's numbers could be a bit higher with another season... never been a big Heineman fan but I'd be ok with getting some ABs versus LHPs and giving our OFers and Guzman some time off here and there

Only problem with Seager, another lefty

That would be choo, gallo, calhoun, odor, guzman and Seager

seems like the last year or two we’ve seen Elvis start out really well, he suffers some kind of injury, and he never plays back to the high level He started with.

he deserves some patience because he’s the only ranger from the “ glory days” left, but he needs to start producing again.

the rangers didn’t seem to care about results last year at all. They played who they wanted no matter how guys performed. Until that changes, other teams probably won’t take us seriously.

How much better should Seager be vs Todd Frazier next year?
How much will Seager make vs Frazier?
Frazier is also a right handed bat and wouldn’t require giving anyone up in a trade.
