Better wins. Seems like a pretty obvious reason.

I think the pollsters didn’t because they knew how funny it would be to see Michigan fans act like a bitch over a ranking in early Oct
Boom!

Yeah I’m an Oklahoma fan obviously and I don’t get this comparison at all. Didn’t Texas beat 3 ranked teams in just the past month?

Oklahoma was a big win for Texas but I think people are starting to over rate them. Have to see how the rest of their year goes.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because neither team can afford another loss . If both win out there's an excellent chance both make the playoff although Texas would have a better shot imo

Michigan was better at the start of the season.

Texas is clearly the better team now.

OU is a much bigger win than any of Michigan's best, though losing to ND is a lot more forgiveable than Maryland. But the AP and coaches don't care about that. I wouldn't get too worked up over polls in the beginning of October. Michigan rates much better in S&P+ (5th) than Texas (38th). Ok State, TTU and WVU (all of whom rate higher) should give us a better idea of how good they are, just like Michigan's next 3 games will.
If the polls were actually a reliable gauge. As much as I hate it ND would be 1 based on SOS/Quality wins

Congrats on wins vs. TT, Youngstown State and Kansas....

I dont blame VT, yall doin what ya can and had no dog in that fight (no offense) as far as why the pollsters do what they do yall cant help that.
Point is, VT didnt have any buisness back in the rankings, at least not yet, had yall rattled off 2-3 in a row after the ODU debacle and a win over ND? Absolutely, get yall in there then but not until.

You will get no argument from me about the lack of a quality opponent, lije Alabama, we cant help it that our opponents have sucked this year and neither one of us are prob not as good as we have looked against these tomato cans.

Agreed. Plus they are underrated by computers right now. Computer doesn’t realize the offense is completely different today, than that first game vs Michigan

While I think Michigan’s chances of winning out are slim to none, unless they figure it out on offense — no chance would Texas get in over UM if both finish with 1 loss.

UM’s 1 loss would be ND

Texas’s 1 loss would be Maryland

UM would have to finish the year beating Wisconsin twice, MSU, PSU and OSU (with OSU being on the road — don’t see it happening)

Both teams have an argument right now to be ahead of each other. Texas has "We beat USC, TCU, and Oklahoma (a team that stayed in Top 15 after the loss). Michigan has "We dominated the team that beat Texas".

Both have an argument right now to be ahead of each other. Michigan has the common opponent and Texas has the biggest win. Michigan has the tougher road ahead of them. If they keep winning, they will end up higher ranked than Texas.

I disagree. Voters don't care about the MD loss. That was a long time ago. Just look how Florida vs Texas moved in the polls last week. Texas is the sweetheart right now.

The issue for Michigan is Not re Dame. Say

Bama unbeaten
Clemson unbeaten
ND, UGA, Texas, Michigan all one loss . Michigan would have the best resume, Texas second best . But ND beat Michigan heads up. Who gets in? It's highly unlikely ND loses more than once so really Michigan would probably need ND to go unbeaten . The resumes between Texas and Michigan would be very close but Texas wouldn't have that head to head disadvantage Michigan would

If they both win out they meet in the big12 CG, so one will not be able to win out.
