They aren't playing amateur sport's especially considering how much money is involved and how much time they are forced to put in to their sports. It's on par with the professional leagues.

Amateur status has nothing to do with how much money is involved in producing the event.

They are not forced to do anything.

Also this bullshit about not being able to afford things, goes out the window when coaches like Nick Saban or Calipari are making close to double digit millions per year.

They work much longer hours, all year round, and will be at the university awhile as opposed to 3-4 yrs.

Also, alot of times the coaches salary is afforded because of donations made to university. Bill O'Brien got a raise after his first year at PSU because an alum donated extra money

schools cant afford it

even it it was that isn't the star athletes fault. school surely couldn't afford to pay coaches insane money right?

Fuck it.

Colleges are for higher learning.

Somebody else needs to take care of these top end football players for 3 to 4 years before they are able to play in the NFL.

Won't be a single school that will close up shop due to revenue losses in college football. NOT ONE.

Coaches like that bring in more money than they make. The money they make also speaks to the quality and value of the training the players get. Getting to play and train under a coach like that is worth quite a bit.

So we can watch the highest paid team win every year, and Texas fans talk about how they could spend the most if they wanted?

No thanks.

You think all the athletes would be going to Texas just because they most? There are so many other schools with wealthy and famous alma maters, that the parity of lack thereof wouldn't change much.

The teams that recruit the best athletes are always in contention. There is a reason teams like Oregon, Alabama and others are always is in contention. It's the same few teams out of 120 every year. Small school, and lesser known teams don't stand a chance, and never will.

It's like that already.

I was waiting for that.

So the NFL is fully funding which other non-revenue generating sports?

I'll wait.

This is a multibillion-dollar business like the NBA or NFL or Major League Baseball that just happens to be run out of a college campus

College Football and Basketball make revenue that is more than Hockey and Baseball and on par with the NBA.

Considering the tv contracts, gate revenue, revenue from bowl games, ncaa tournament, sponsorships etc etc.

Your delusional if you think that's not true.

The only one's not getting a slice of any of that pie is the Players themselves.

They would have to play ALL athletes the same. Title 9 says you have to invest the same amount of money in women's sports as men's sports. How do you propose paying a women's rowing team member the same as your running back?

Say the college paid each athlete $50,000 a year. That's over $26 million a year in salaries alone. So much for your conference revenue.

There is no shortage of players. In fact, they have to limit the number of players schools can have.

Not worth as much as the players who are actually playing the game and putting in the physical effort, risking injury every day.

Players are always more valuable than coaches at any level for any sport.

so in other words schools try to pocket they money and players get the shaft, regardless how much money they are making the school.

But that is all relative. Great players of college football will great players of college football regardless of skill level. If another league formed and took all the great players, college football is still going to be the same.

I think some of you are failing to realize that the great overwhelming majority of football players never make a dime in professional sports, and even then some are only ever lucky to make a scout team.

Actually, the market says yes the coaches are worth way more.

Nick Saban is worth far more to Bama than AJ McCarron ever was.

Yeah because other teams have better players and win more.

But "better" is relative. If the best players went elsewhere, the new "better" players would be the players at Indiana now, and they'll be at Alabama instead.

"A college campus" is making multi-billion dollars off of football? Please.

Texas has 525 student athletes on their own.

The NFL has 1,697 players TOTAL.
