Top-5 Arm Chair GM
I really think the Lions should bring in free agent CB Terrell Thomas. He's been making the rounds a bit, but is still available, and wouldn't cost very much to lock up for two or three seasons.
Most of you likely don't know who Thomas is- in 2010 he put up one of the craziest seasons for a CB I've ever seen: 101 tackles, 21 passes defensed, 5 INTs, 4 forced fumbles, and a sack. Unfortunately, he followed that monster performance with season-ending ACL injuries in 2011 and 2012. Last year he bounced back, playing in all 16 games for the Giants (started 7) and posting 67 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 1 INT, 1 forced fumble, and 1 sack.
I'm not suggesting that he could come in and be our #1 CB and save our secondary. What I am saying is that he was a rising star a few seasons ago, is now a full season removed from major injury, and just turned 29 back in January. He's still got good years left, should come pretty cheap with the injury history, and has the size that's coveted now in the secondary (6'0", 191 lbs).
Even if he never regains his old form, if he can play at the level he played at last season he'd be an upgrade to our secondary, whether at CB or Safety.
I know we don't have much cap room to deal with, but this is a move we can afford that offers a good risk/reward ratio for us. He's got a high ceiling and a low floor, basically.
Thoughts?
