Good point. Can you imagine being Jeff Finger on that day? And your agent calls...

"Hiya Jeff! So...know how we wanted 4 years and 3.5 million?"
"Yeah, did they not take it or something?"
"Not...not exactly. Somehow, we were offered 4 years...and 3.5 million a year."
"*Silence*"
"So, if you could hurry to your fax machine, you may want to sign this as soon as you can"
*Click*

I guess it's a good thing Jeff wasn't on vacation. I imagine he must have had one heck of a party that night though. It's not everyday a person wins the lottery.

Hhaha, heck, if I was talking to a potential boss and they suddenly, for seemingly no reason, offered me 3x's my true worth/what I wanted, I freaking SPRINT to that place for the first day.

Can you imagine the look on everyone's face after the 1st team practice. I mean the rest of the team must have been like "We gave 3.5 million per for this guy?? If I were a teammate I would immediately ask him who his agent was.

I was shocked when I read about this the other day. I can't believe that Talbot's deal violates the cap rules while contracts like Kovalchuk or Brad Richards do not.

Frankly, I wish the cap rules were structured so that every year of the deal had to be within x% of every other year of the deal (maybe 20-25%ish). This 12-12-10-9-8-4-2-1-1-1 is exactly the kind of trouble (overspending) the cap was supposed to prevent. When teams are finding ways to get out of those last few years, then they are overpaying in the early ways, and in the long run, just circumventing the cap. If you want to spend close to the cap or close to the floor, that's your option as an owner or GM. We don't need the contract wizardry on top of it. It goes against the spirit and intent of having the cap in the first place.

So let's just get rid of the freaking cap.

This all reminds me of the city in Florida that made a little girl file for a permit to have a lemonade stand.
