List players you think will surprise and make the roster, and/or people who will win specific roles

I'm going with Leury Garcia winning the UTIL role, Joe Ortiz winning a bullpen role and Ross winning the 5 spot with Perez going to AAA to start the year (along with Profar)

Ortiz makes the big league club.

Ross starts the year in AAA to continue to groom as a starter. Perez wins the #5 spot.

Martin and gentry start out platooning in cf with Martin winning it outright by ASB.

Garcia wins the utility role and baker wins a bench spot.

Well Perez has a broken ulna after a baseball hit him in the forearm today. So now I'm saying Ross wins the #5 rotation spot.

Tough "break" for Perez, looks like DL instead of AAA, then AAA probably once he gets healthy

I couldn't decide what they would do with Olt

Much better for both Profar and Olt to get daily starts at AAA and get themselves hot ... then be ready to move up. Not going to be "getting hot" sitting at the end of the bench. That's why I figure Olt will be started at AAA too.

Especially as hot as Adduci has been this spring. Don't have to make in into an OF like they are trying to do with Olt. Adduci already is one.

I don't think they keep more OFers than Cruz, Murphy, Martin and Gentry

Especially with Garcia's experience playing CF in the minors, along with Moreland

I kind of figured Olt would start in AAA, but his ability to play all 4 corner spots could prove valuable

With Moreland starting at 1b only reason I see him in the OF would be if he and Berkman are smoking hot and TEX wants them both in the lineup for interleague away games. During the season it might be better to just set aside those dates as off days for Berkman.

Here's how I see TEX 13 position players lining up: C (2): AJ, Soto; IF(6): Moreland, Kinsler, Beltre, Andrus, Berkman, Garcia; OF (5): Cruz, Gentry, Martin, Murphy, Adduci.

Garcia and Olt may know where the OF is but neither are real OF options. Just like Profar, Olt benefits from regular AAA starts. Justifying them as OF options in order for Olt to be a seventh IF on the active roster does not create long term value.

I think Borbon gets traded to someone for a like piece that frees up a 40-man spot for Adduci who has had a superior spring to this point. This allows TEX to start Olt at AAA while at the same time puts a hotter LH bat on the roster who possesses more speed and better defense than Murphy who I consider to be TEX weakest link since MY's departure.

This is tough, there are a lot of guys that could shine with very few spots for anyone. I do think Garcia wins the UTL role, but only because Profar will start in AAA and not wasted as a bench bat. I think Borbon has a strong spring and could be on display for a trade as he is out of options and we dont have room for him. I think both Gentry and Leonys earn significant playing time this year with Cruz being primarily at DH as I dont think Berkman stays healthy. I think Ross earns the #5 spot out of Spring Training but gets bumped back to the pen once Lewis gets back unless he happens to tear it up which I think is possible as I like his stuff.....if we fall out of contention by the trade deadline, I would like us to trade Andrus to the Cards in a package with Taveras and get Profar in there to get some big league time. if we don't extend Andrus, then he needs to be traded before next season, would be stupid to hold onto him and just let him walk. Cards match up really well with an Andrus trade and I could definitely see that happen.

I agree with the whole setup except Adduci, just don't see them keeping that many OFers

I only said Moreland could play the OF in a pinch if needed, same with Garcia, having only 4 OFers for a game doesn't kill them as then you call someone up if needed, Garcia, from what I've read, has played the OF very well in the minors but is much more valuable at SS, and isn't just a guy who owns a glove just in case

With Garcia on the active roster that still leaves you 12 position players. Which other IF would you give a roster spot to if not to a 5th OF (Borbon, Beltre, Adduci, Cunningham?).

Isn't baker a 4 corners guy?

Could be Baker ... had the walkoff today. He does have 4 corners experience too as Romeo suggests.

Quite interesting to see the torrid STs for all these guys ... Adduci, Cunningham, Baker and Borbon.

Gentry, Martin and Moreland too for that matter.

When is MLB supposed to make a decision on the PEDs cases that includes Cruz?

Without a positive test, is there anything MLB can do?

It seems that Borbon could hit .600 in ST and still not make a dent because of the opinion that was formed on him long ago. No matter what he does he's toast. I also think he will wind up with another team and somebody will turn him into a pretty good ballplayer.

We need him to have a good ST and then trade him for something of value.

Houston could be a solid landing spot for him, plenty of opportunities in that OF, and they have a good amount of talent in the AAA-A levels, or maybe a bullpen arm

does anybody need borbon though.....i dont see him bringing much in return

OF guys are pretty easy to find and i the only team that is popping into my head that might need a OF is the mets....maybe the padres also ?

--- guess houston too didnt think of them(how old is borbon now) would they want to try younger guys???
