I'm not really bummed on that one. On the 2nd down play, Garoppolo had two open targets - Samuel and Kittle. Jones just knocked down what would've been a first down....he makes a good football play.

You're right, Jones made a play. Good execution always cures a bad decision.

With that much time (6 mins) and now only a 3 point lead, you're no longer in the "protect/milk" mode, but the 1st down run play was successful, that's what you do best, do it again, make them stop it, knock out 2 birds with one stone, clock and 1st dwn. It's all hypothetical at this point, but to me it just made more sense to run it again...they could've done that and the guy fumbled...who knows. No certainty a running play would've worked, but it had been working.

At crucial points in the game, they went away from what they do best.

i would have given it to Damien Williams. 150 total yards and 2 td's

But that last TD didn't matter. Once it was clear that he had the first down, I was wondering if the Niners defensive players were thinking let him score.

@There is A Moose at 3rd

Niners finished the game with +44% DVOA and the Chiefs finished the game +21% DVOA. Their model really breaks down when big plays swing football games.

Kind of curious how this Super Bowl ranks amongst mostly neutral fans? It was competitive, if nothing else.

Yeah, I'm biased, obviously, but if I had to guess, it's probably in the middle or low. It wasn't really a well-played game, and though it was a tight game down the stretch, the final margin was 11 points and I think that a lot of people will disqualify it from their list of top Super Bowls because it didn't end up as a one score margin of victory.

I think the only comparable Super Bowl in memory was the Packers v Patriots in 96. Favre vs Bledsoe. I think this Super Bowl was better than that one so Id slot it right ahead of that one...in theory if I was a neutral fan.

I'm curious what neutral fans thought of the Kittle OPI. What did you see there that was beyond the normal hand fighting that occurs on many pass plays? I'm not that mad about that because really it's Shanahan's fault for not giving his team more time for that drive.
