I know we all know how bad the Patriots draft WR’s in the first 2 rounds…. But wow it’s horrible.

You just had to remind us, ughhh.

So promising. Yet not one could produce in this system. Maybe it's time to bring in an Edellman, Amendolla or Welker type to help evaluate and coach up. Nothing else seems to be working.

Stop looking for NFL potential. Start looking at overall college production. Screw size...Edelman, Amendola and Welker were all 6' or smaller.
Speed and ability to break from coverage quickly should be the main criteria. Would you rather have five Edelmans or one Moss???

5 JEs any day. Moss was blessed with incredible talent. Edelman worked on his Kraft daily.

One tall WR is an asset if he can catch congested balls. It gives more opportunities in the RZ.

Or how BB couldn't draft a WR, yet could find an undrafted player who started on the Patriots every year for seven years in a row. (WTF???)
Well it is a crap shoot. Proven over the years and not only a NE issue. But the inability to find at least on WR is mind boggling.

It's odd to me how we are so miserable at selecting WRs yet we crush it with TEs
And DBs...

You would think as many defensive backs that Bill picked, first round to undrafted, he would have been able to figure out their opposite a few times more than just Edelman.

Yeah, Agreed! It seems if you can select DBs and TEs you should have a clue about WRs. Maybe b/c Brady was so good he never really put any real work into it?

Your receiver room should be like a basketball team. You need variety in order to attack teams in different parts of the field. Yes it would be great to have 5 Edelman's, but having some guys that can win on the outside or win in the red zone with a jump ball could be just as important to keeping your offense scoring TD's. Edelman's can get you down the field...I would worry having that many of the same type of guy being able to score TD's.

Yes...and no.

He seemed to learn his lesson after '06 and brought in Stallworth, Welker, and Moss.
Then Amendola and Hogan and brought back Branch.
He tried to keep it rolling to some extent with Gordon, Brown and Sanu.

All the early picks he made at WR...Dobson, Harry, Boyce, Jackson, Tate, Price, Thornton...etc...It all leads me to believe his scouts sucked. And WR coach too.

Just my opinion.

Don't forget they hit on Branch and David Givens early on. Givens wasn't an early rounder, but he had success like one. A lot of those picks where "swings for the fence" and some may have been "connection picks". It's also tough to tell how many just couldn't click with TB12. It hard to judge talent compared with the field after the mid-first round. There are so many variables.

It wasn't intended to be an analysis of every WR picked or signed nor get into which WRs Brady froze out because he was already out the door.

Just a generalization of how good vs how bad they hit or missed.

I do like this young man. Only been a handful of games but he seems like he has “it”.
Imagine what he could do with a good O Line...

You know, one that would block for him so he was running for yards instead of running for his life.
Or one that could keep a defense on their toes because they didn't know if he was going to keep it or hand it off.
Or one that could establish the run in order to set up the pass.

And not get holding/false start/improper alignment calls every other play.
