Ok, the end of a season always comes with talk about staff changes. Add in the stupid over dramatic reaction to a GA leaving. I am not asking who you want to or think is going to come in because then all we get is even dumber comments about Scott Frost being the OC or head coach, Tommie Frazier being QBs coach, Jason Peter being DL coach, and so on and so on. Just fucking stupid. Or the even dumber conversation about Chip Kelly or Brian Kelly or some other big name coach at a big name university leaving their place to come here. I don't know which conversation is dumber.

I am wondering what coach you think needs to go. Don't care who replaces them, just who should go and why?

Just for the record......

The statement I made was about our new AD thinking he can hire a "Brian Kellyish" coach.....

Not Brian Kelly himself. Nebraska wouldn't lure that caliber of coach here for 6 million a year.....

I can't tell you how many people have brought up Brian Kelly, Chip Kelly, Les Miles, Nick Saban, and other coaches like that. I was not talking about you.

Just wanted to make sure........

Cuz I was the one who brought up Brian Kelly's name here at the Hoop......guess it was just a coincidence.

Anyways, yes......those people are out of their minds.

I thought they were joking/trolling.

After time goes by, hearing Bo's name being thrown out every time there's an open job, makes me think his agent is working. Why else, does anyone really care about Nebraska right now? When Bo was hired he said it was "His dream job". If that changed, why? Was Tom meddling? If so, that is no longer an issue. Is he pissed at Harvey for post A&M? Fuck if I know. Jed has said he knows this shopping is true. My give a fuck 'o meter is running low.

All I know is we seem to be unable to hit on recruits and have to go JC over and over. Seem to have a bunch of fat nobodys on the DT chart.

Looks like Terry Joseph was a great hire. The golf pro turned out fucking bad ass receivers. Turns out Ron Brown can coach whatever you ask him to.

Pass pro was bad, line penalties improved.

Special teams was atrocious. Which seems hard to do with one of the nations best punt/kick specialists returning. Don't give a fuck if there's coaching changes or not, that shit needs to change.

I really think we need to have an actual QBs coach on the sideline during the game.
As for the popular candidates.

Cotton- Unless we can get a proven O-line coach as a replacement I'm not sure much will change. Just don't think we got the players to be successful. I suppose it's worth a shot though.

Dobson- Not sure how much a S&C coach does on his own and how much a he is just following orders.

Pelini- He's supposed to still know how to coach defense. That's debatable. Not getting the players in the right frame of mind for big games. Melting down and taking the players with him in critical conference games. Becoming a punchline for the national media.

Papuchis- Two straight years of bad run defense and poor defense overall against the Top 20.

Els- Special teams is mediocre.

Why I leave Cotton off? First, we have a very good offense. Especially in the running game and everything keys off that. Yes, it can be improved! I don't think we would be as critical if we had a decent defense. Besides, I don't think he does much field coaching. Remember, he is listed as Associate Head Coach. Although I can't verify this, I'm sure his job is more administrative. Doing gopher like tasks that Pelini doesn't want to do. How can we place the blame on him for the on field performence?

I asked the question because I assumed everyone wanted to get rid of Cotton. But seriously, why? Has the really been THAT bad. Sure it isn't the pipeline from the mid 90's but we havent had that with or without Cotton here since then.

Cotton has gotten a player on the all conference 2 deep every year except for 2009. This year he had 2 guys on the 2 deep. Nebraska's rushing offense was 37th in 2008. It then dropped to 62nd in 2009. But then has jumped up to 9th in 2010, 15th in 2011, and 8th this year. Cotton has been a public fanbase whipping boy for years now. Not saying that it isn't completely justified but I also think it goes overboard.

As for other coaches, of course my choice would be Bo but I know that isn't happening. Special teams and LB is really the only thing that you could look at that something needs to happen. DL has a first year guy so give him time. Secondary is fine. WR is surprisingly good. RB has Ron Brown, enough said. QB, as long as Taylor keeps getting outside help then he will hopefully keep improving.

Bo has proven that he will never get rid of a coach unless they pull a Marvin Sanders or leave on their own. So nothing is going to change. Fortunately or unfortunately.

I do see our O line getting pushed around. and I cant completely say that the success from our rushing this year is based on the o-line. We have some pretty damn good running backs and taylor is able to take it to the barn every time he touches the ball for big chunks of yardage. Fortunately for us he is able to do that unfortunate becouse our o-line cant hold the defense at bay to give our plays time to develope. Its not like Beck says go threw your progressions and if it isnt there run for 110 yards and out juke and torch everyone on the feild.

So with a bad offensive line those RBs and QBs are doing what they have been doing? Then we should have some All American RBs and QBs!!!!!

Listen, I am not saying that there aren't issues there. Like our sacks allowed numbers are not good. The best ranking we have had in that over the last 5 years has been 31st. But also remember that from 08-10 Cotton was working under an OC that changed what he wanted his offense to do constantly. That is hard to teach continuity. Being ranked in the top 15 for 3 straight years in rushing is no slouch and it isn't all because of the RBs. Our RBs have been pretty good but considering the number of different RBs we have used due to injuries over the last few years and they all still have success has to say something as well.

I am not looking for coach of the year awards for Cotton but the venom towards him is too much in my opinion.

When do you see us running straight up the gut and gaining yards though?

Our rushing attack is successful due to misdirection and multiplicity.......and speed. We're doing it all with skill, and it aint good enough. If we could line up and just run the ball straight down a team's throat, well then we could start controlling games again.....and that is a key ingredient to being a Championship team.

But if we have to keep relying on fooling Defenses with a zone-read or by running out of a bunch of different formations, we are always going to have to deal with penalties and turnovers and all that shit that comes with it.
