Lionel Hollins is the basketball version of Herm Edwards.

UGLY finish....but I will take it

SA dominated about 97% of the first two games and fell asleep late.

everything had been so easy for 7.5 of the 8 quarters that the SPURS were almost stunned that Memphis did not roll over

There was some idiotic bungling at the end that is unusual.

But, the Spurs showed they can win when things go horribly wrong as well.

They dominated and outcoached the overtime period after gacking the 4th quarter lead.

2 more to go....

Looks like Memphis has solved the riddle regarding the defense on Zbo. Without those bad execution errors at the end by Memphis the series would be tied. At least now Memphis will be angry instead of doubtful. They beat themselves again.

Looks like Memphis has solved the riddle regarding the defense on Zbo.

If by solving you mean the freakish 3 fouls on Tim Duncan in 30 seconds of the 3rd quarter.

Parker got hot for a little bit after Duncan left, but once he got tired the Grizz took advantage of no Duncan.

The low post of MEM was 4 for 25 with zero FT in the paint with Duncan on the floor.
The low post of MEM was 9 for 15 with 10 FT in the paint with Duncan off the floor.

Duncan returned in the overtime, he was dominant and the Grizz could not score that easily again. They struggled again to score.

You could argue that the Grizz MAGICALLY figured out the way to beat the Spurs defense in the 2nd half....at the exact same time Duncan left.

Or, you might say that Duncan is the Spurs best post defense player and he has a huge impact....what with being 1st team all NBA defense and whatnot

Memphis might figure it out. That is entirely possible. They could find an answer and win 4 straight no doubt.

But, to suggest the riddle being solved probably needs more data than 1 quarter with Duncan off the floor.

Just giving it the eye test it looks to me like Memphis found something at halftime. Other Spurs players had been successful in slowing down Zbo prior to Duncan getting those fouls. Duncan played in the 4th quarter and Memphis was still clicking. The body language was upbeat and confident. Memphis made 3-4 complete bonehead mistakes in execution and lost because of them. Stats have some validity but they usually don't tell the whole story.

How can any player play effective post defense on the brink of fouling out?

Once Duncan got the fouls, he left and the Grizzlies suddenly started scoring in the paint.

Those 3 fouls in 30 seconds completely and utterly changed the Spurs defensive rotations.

Even his return of the 4th quarter was the typical defense expected of a player with 5 fouls.

Other than Michael Jordan, nobody can truly play great defense with 5 fouls.

Duncan had to reel in his defense considerably or foul out.

Grizzlies might be wearing down a bit. Zbo 'going off' hasnt really been a consistent thing the past 2 years and the Clippers had 2 bigs (Griffin and Jordan) and the Thunder had 3 bigs (Ibaka, Perkins and Collison). The Grizzlies looked completely out of gas at the end of last game.

I noticed that as well.

Z-bo was sucking oxygen in the overtime and laboring to get up the court.

People forget Z-bo is closing in on 32 years old in a month.

He took so long to develop into a good player that we just sometimes assume he is a new fresh face. Actually he is on the older side now.

He was never in the best of shape or athletic. Those extra pounds of flab he carries around feel a lot heavier when a player is getting older and logging deep minutes.

I guess the good thing for both teams is that there is a long 3 days of rest to recharge.

we might see some offense after both teams get a much needed 3 days of rest.

Flopping is so not cool. :lame:

To me, flopping is a guy's way of saying "I don't have enough confidence in my abilities to beat you man-to-man so I am going to try and find a cheap way to trick the referees into helping me."

It is a really sad mentality than has fallen over the sport,

:agree: Bill Russell never flopped. Larry Bird never flopped. Flopping is pathetic.

$5000 is not a ton of cash for such a game changing performance.

The fake head injury almost cost the Spurs the win.

Flopping is part of the game. I don't think players will stop until the referees get better.

My only question is why didn't the video referees notice the "flop"?

They viewed it for about 5 to 10 minutes at every angle and still upgraded it to the Flagrant Foul.

Everyone at home saw it as a flop.

The NBA saw it as a flop.

you can't change the foul call, but it was silly to upgrade that to a flagrant.

.............

But, heres to hoping the Spurs can find a way to steal a game on the road.

Memphis is tough at home. They are undefeated and essentially unchallenged at home.
