You could make a full bullpen out of ex-Giants lefties who are either a free agent, out of options or in a camp as a non-roster invitee:

Closer: Will Smith (FA)
Setup: Steven Okert (NRI)
Setup: Drew Pomeranz (NRI)
Middle: Amir Garrett (NRI)
Middle: Sam Long (out of options)
Middle: Scott Alexander (NRI)
Middle: Matt Moore (NRI)
Middle: Tyler Matzek (NRI)
Long: Drew Smyly (FA)

Farhan is the gift that keeps on giving. I'd take Sam Long

I think the Giants went into this spring with Jerar Encarnación penciled in to the make the roster, especially since he is out of MiLB options. The question will be, can he stick after that? Limited defensively, but if he hits enough, he'll find his way into the lineup.

I was shocked last year when his D actually passed my eye test. He won’t win a GG any time soon, sure, but he doesn’t look to be THAT much of a liability.

Hell, give him a 1B glove and see what he can do there. I love big targets at 1B.

As I write this, Carney had a 3 run double B1 vs. LAA. Dude is RAKING.

Some Giants pitching stats with MLB ranks so far:

10.34 SO/9 (2nd)
2.28 BB/9 (1st)
4.55 K/BB (1st)
9.82 pitches/inning (1st)
That is beautiful. It will be much more beautiful if the staff did that in the regular season this year.

While Mike Yastrzemski has become somewhat of a polarizing player among the fanbase, I think it bears mentioning the commendable career he has put together. The club has been horrendous at drafting/developing players for a long time now and got the equivalent of a 1st-round value in a minor trade involving Tyler Herb. Yastrzemski may have a relatively low ceiling, but he's been a starting-caliber outfielder his entire career. That's not nothing.

I made a similar post a year or two ago about Yaz. He has always been on the fringe of getting released, but he has still constantly put up GG level defense in right while swinging a just-south-of-all-star bat.

I have often argued for moving on from him, but he has put up a very nice career while at the same time attracting attention to the giants for marketing purposes.

Yaz has to be one of the better 3rd outfielders out there. What’s wrong with that?

I think for a contending team nothing at all. And I don’t mind him on the Giants either. I think some fans just get frustrated if he starts to block a potentially better (younger) player. The Giants aren’t winning the World Series this year, so better to see if a younger player can have a breakthrough like Ramos. But I think most fans just like to bitch lol. As Yaz has been a good to great defender, good to great teammate and good hitter.

He's not blocking Ramos though, Ramos is in left and is our 1st OF (or maybe 2nd we'll see if he keeps up the hitting). If Luciano and Matos weren't busts he might be blocking them but they are so he's not.

If we get someone better than Yaz via draft or trade, Yaz will be a tremendous 4th OF.

If we can’t win, we best be able to bitch…

Interesting take on Luciano and Matos. Yes, both are really down but I'm not ready to call them busts yet. However, they keep on their trajectory this year that will be a different story.

It's how I see it. Happy to be wrong.

I think he is a prime 4th OFer, so getting Jerar, Matos and Lucky ABs to see if they develop is in the mix. Hell, I don’t want to completely abandon all hope for Eldridge playing the OF, but Ramos is a LFer, so I begin to worry about putting more water buffalos in right.

I'm still pretty hopeful for Matos.

Luci? Eh, not so much.

Can't see Bryce playing OF in SF.
