I 100% would be on board with him. Just stating the negatives. The have enough money to sign Chapman and Snell (my preference). If they did just suck it up and signed Chapman and Bellinger they would be AL favorites to make the WS. Just give them front loaded contracts with opt outs. The bs thing with the whole “budget” is they don’t have an issue at all of having a $200 million dollar payroll for this season. It is 2025 and beyond that their financial status is up in the air because of Root Sports isn’t going to be making them money.

On that note though, Root would be flourishing had they not stopped the Sonics from coming back.

I don't get how root doesn't make any money with the Mariners and I assume the Kracken games. What about this Sonics thing? This I have not heard of.

The problem with Root is they moved it to a higher tier of the cable package so they will definitely lose money cause there isn’t enough hockey and baseball fans that will pay the extra $10 or $20 (I can’t recall) to make up the difference. But it’s also kind of the issue with how inept the front office when it came to cable. Seattle especially but the entire west coast is full of cord cutters so no idea why there wasn’t a plan in case the cord cutting finally caught up to them. Cause the Mariners love making money but so do the cable companies.

When the Kings were bought and were going to possibly relocate the Mariners lobbied the city council to vote against vacating an alley that the group needed to build the arena. Without a viable arena there was no chance at moving the Kings. To be fair the Seahawks and the port lobbied too but if the Sonics and Kraken were on Root there would be more than enough fans that would get the more expensive package to make up for the loss. And evidently the only reason the Mariners bought into Root was because the dude who was going to bring the Sonics back was in talks to become minority owner.

Interesting stuff. What a cluster fuck you guys have out there. I'm 95% certain Sonics get back on board when announced after the NBA tv deal is done but still won't see play for another 2 years after that. So maybe in 4yrs people will pay the upcharge for all 3 teams.

I’m not sure how the whole thing with the NBA would shake out, I totally spaced but Root has the Blazers contract so not sure even the Sonics could save them. Not sure how to do it at all but the Mariners ownership should sell all of their holdings to Amazon. Amazon is throwing around stupid money for content on Prime and will probably throw even more stupid money because the alleged streaming platform the college football conferences are trying to put together.

Or just sell the team to Amazon.
