Believe me I'd rather have a better player at 3B, unfortunately this is what we have. I'm not thrilled about it but Chap does bring some power where Urias seems like an instant out with no power. There are a few negatives with Chapman.
A. It nullifies the Geno trade, Geno would’ve been cheaper, slightly less offensive production but he was a clubhouse leader and was the best clutch hitter they had.
B. It kind of screws up the roster built for today and the future. If all goes to plan, Polanco is the 3B next year with Young or Ford at 2B. I guess you could argue that makes them tradable but if Jerry didn’t trade Ford this offseason I’m not sure he is going to trade him. And I personally think it would be a massive mistake to trade Young. I think they need a full minor league year of Emerson before they should even answer a phone call on Young.
I won’t be opposed to signing Chapman but if they can get extra money from the front office they should spend it on Snell IMO. I generally hate the idea of a 6 man rotation but there is a very good case to have a 6th guy with Woo’s injury history and both he and Miller throwing the most innings….plus it allows for them to trade Hancock for the eventual Arozarena trade I think they will end up making.
I mostly put that part cause outside of Julio, I don’t think anyone should feel good about the COF’s. Raley and Moore as a platoon isn’t good and neither is Canzone and Haniger. IMO Moore should only be starting maybe 1 or 2 days a week to spell JP and Polanco. He is best used as a guy who comes basically every tight game in the 6th or 7th inning because this is going to be a very slow team, especially if Canzone makes the roster over Trammell. Having to carry Zavala over a Haggerty or Marlowe IMO puts them in a bind cause I would assume they are going to have an order with only Raley being able to move from 4th down.
