All of this bickering is for nothing. Sure the Caps and Pens would play each other if the playoffs started tomorrow. News flash: They don't. The Penguins wish they did. Why? They are going to fall in the standings and lose home ice. The only way the Caps play the Pens in round one is if Washington somehow wins their division and finishes third overall. You can read into this all you want, but it will prove to be the truth of the matter. ;)

I guess because the Caps have had very good regular season success these past few years, meaning they are a good team, but for some reason, they don't produce in the playoffs. The players are relatively the same from year to year and the results have been the same... so I guess that's why I feel that way... playoffs, so they say, are a different type of game and the Caps haven't "proven" they can play that way.

To be fair, look back at the caps-habs series last year. We werevknocked out by the same thing you guys were. Yoda was in net for them. The caps, unlike the pens in their series, utterly dominated their series with Montreal. Look at the game stats for the losses. Last years loss was heart breaking but it had nothing to do with a lack of play by Washington, in my opinion.

Had Greenie, Flash or semin showed up, we would've won that series, so I disagree that it was a lack of play by us. Also was a lack of coaching, but that's a different argument...

The reason I think the Caps won't win a Cup with Boudreau. Just my opinion though...he could easily prove me wrong, he's still a recent guy in the league.

Who knew?

There is really only one team (Montreal) threatening to jump into the 4/5 spot, and they are 6 points behind the Pens right now (with only 18 games to go). It's possible the two teams don't play each other, but I think it's likely they do.

What you have presented is not a fact. The only fact in this thread is the Caps will beat the Pens if they face each other. ;)

When your guys are in position to score and don't, that's on the players, not the coach, IMO.

Agreed, I just feel like he's not the best at adjustments on the fly. But, really no fan can judge that because the only thing we see is players making or not making adjustments.

Hockey existed before 2006? ;)

We KNEW we had no chance in that series. It was a great run to the finals and I remember being so excited, but also knowing the Caps had ZERO chance in that series. But we did make Hasak so mad he threw his blocker pad in the conference finals - my personal favorite moment in Caps' history.

Seminar and flash could hqveplayed a lot better, for sure. Green could have been better on o but was a good player in his own zone. Regardless, the caps dominated that series and controlled the zone for like 80% of the time. They outshot them like 3.5 to 1. We ran into a hot goalie. It happens. The same thing happened to the pens.

I feel like the Pens are constantly playing hot goalies. Freaking hate hot goalies.

Jason Arnott is the perfect fit on the struggling Caps power play as well as a great hard nosed 2nd line center for Washington. He will also provide experience and leadership that is neccessary for a long playoff run. Stcekl was a good player but he was moveable.

Good move for the caps who fell that the time for a run is now.

9 of the 12 forwards were the same in the example you showed and half of the D-men were the same before the Gogo trade. I don't call that "laughable." That's 66% the same and most of that two-thirds are the core/premier guys on the team, especially on the offensive end. Both teams have improved their defensive player and player core. But yes, overall, the teams are largely the same except for injuries, which are going to happen in any given season.

Even if not the same, you're argument is the Pens are more dangerous to the Caps b/c they are not as good as they used to be b/c of those injuries? That doesn't make sense.

When something is 66% the same, it's not the same.

They're completely different teams. You can't compare how each plays.

And I never said the Pens are more dangerous to the Caps. All I've said is that your "Pens can't even beat the Caps WITH Crosby" statement was stupid. It was. And that you shouldn't lock down a victory against the Pens in the playoffs just cause the Caps managed to beat the Guerin/Poni-train last regular season...

Other than that, excellent point....
