Not from me. I said back then I thought we were still a few years away and pegged that series at about 60% chance Pens' win and 40% chance Caps' win. We played well against you guys that year, but still had a lot of growing to do with many of our young players. And that was the first time we had won the season series after being dominated the previous three. Now we've gone 10-0-2 in three years. Hard to ignore now.

And I think Neal and Kovalev were nice pickups, but you can't lose two guys like Crosby and Malkin and expect your team to go anywhere in the postseason. It's just not realistic. You may win a series, but the Pens are going nowhere in this postseason barring some dramatic and amazing recovery by Crosby, which seems unlikely.

I think if the Pens draw the right team, they could get by the first round, but I don't think the Caps are that team.

We'll just have to wait and see on that. I guarantee you one thing, a match-up with Pittsburgh in the post-season will not be easy. The last two times the Pens have been outed in the PS, both series went 6 games, or more.

Yes, last I checked shootout wins don't count in the playoffs. 1-0 victories do. And while you are citing how terrible those players are, I don't see Malkin skating back on the ice in late March. Great argument for my points. Thanks.

Outdoor slush games don't count in the playoffs either then lol. And No Malkin won't be back in April but SIDNEY CROSBY, Kunitz, Neal, and Kovy (4 out of their top 6 forwards) will be... Well, hopefully haha.

eloco you sound piiiiiissed brother, you're out for blood hahah.

Pissed, no. Out for blood and redemption, yes. I just hope the teams stay in the 4/5 spots. Could easily change, in which case I doubt they'd meet this postseason.

Yeah the Caps really seem to have issues making very far in the playoffs. First round or nothing for these teams probs...

Your argument would hold great water (no pun intended) if the result weren't consistent with nearly every other recent meeting of the teams. If it were different, you could chalk it up to an anomaly and the weather. Given the other data and evidence, that's a tough sell.

I think people may be over looking the Pens in the postseason. Our D and Fleury have been up to par...that said if we don't get a healthy team, we're not escaping the first round.

Yeah. Entering the classic, the RECENT meeting between the two teams was a Pens victory. Don't care what the Bill Guerin/Gonchar/Ponikarsucksky/Fedotenko/Jay McKee/whoever else Pens team did vs the Caps last season. Completely different teams.

The fact the Caps squeaked past the Wilkes-Barre Pens 1-0 doesn't really ooze that intimidating playoff team mojo you're trying to give them lol

There is still a month and change on saying if Sidney Crosby is going to miss the post-season. That ship is still in the harbor. Those concussions are tricky injuries, your best offensive blue-liner can attest to that, right now.

Losing Evgeni Malkin, while not an easy player to replace by any stretch of the imagination, is not the end of the line for the Penguins. Shero made two moves by picking up Kovy and Neal that can fortify offense lost by one (sid/geno) of those two.

If Sid is out for the 2011 post-season, the Pens will have a tough time. But, like I said, that is yet to be determined.

Yeah they're fucked if the best player in the world isn't there.

EDIT: Still 4th in goals despite playing 22+ fewer games than the others great goal scores like Stamkos, Sharp, Kesler, Sedin, Perry, Nash, Ryan and Carter...

I mean, if Sid's not in the postseason, I'll be happy to get a series to 5 games.

Really? They're like 80% the same.

The Pens roster that will be going into the postseason is actually a LOT different. I don't think we'll even have one line the same. On D, basically one pairing is the same. And if we don't have Sid...it's extremely different. Beyond just the personnel though, the overall stigma around each team has morphed as well. A playoff series between these two again would be nothing like the last time they met. Don't think it's a lock though. The odd thing is, in each game the Pens/Caps have played this season it's basically been a different Pens team. The first meeting was Staal-less, but basically the team we want back, the second meeting we thought was the team but then came the Sid injury and it was outside (doesn't change the outcome necessarily, but it certainly affects the game play), then the third meeting was the beat up Pens, and the fourth the AHL Pens. There hasn't been a consistent team that the Caps have played. But yeah, they'd certainly be favored in a series.

Two goalies in the top half of the league in the major statistical areas. Have been one of the best defensive teams in the league since December. Recent Cup history shows that age/experience is not as important as being hot at the right time. Trend to beating the cap is to spend less on goalies.

Probably all of those reasons.

thanks. just wondering. It seems they have focused more on playing a tight defensive game around their young goaltending duo. I see that they are in the bottom half of the league in GF and top half for GA, quite a big difference from last season.

I agree with you about wanting to meet in the first round. It will be fun entering into the series as an underdog. What will the Caps do if the Pens manage to win the series, without their top 2 players? If that were to happen, oh, the humanity....

:o

more like 60 to me. as they stand right now, they're no where near what they were last year.
