I see Fehr coming back into Bradley's spot, but who knows when he will be healthy

Don't you think Fehr would go back to the 3rd line? (He's not really a 4th liner) And then Hendricks would move back to the 4th.

Congrats on your "shootout" win - the only way you guys can beat us recently. Too bad they won't have those in the playoffs.

We've dominated the series recently. You can hang your hand on the '09 series if you want, but the trend is pretty obvious. Teams that dominate during the season tend to win in the playoffs also.

Your Jeopardy category is Notable Streaks. And the answer is...

Awfully strong bravado for a team who has historically failed against Pittsburgh in the playoffs... and yes, I will hang my hat on 2009 because the trend continued, even though the Caps dominated during the regular season.

The Caps made some needed trades, I thought. Arnott will be a great veteran presence in the lockerroom and the bench, while Wideman will work in Green's place on the blue-line till he gets healthy.

I would welcome a playoff round against the Caps, because I don't think it will be the cakewalk you might believe it to be.

You're god damn right!

The fact we've dominated you the last two seasons is a lot more indicative of what will happen than some series in the early 90s. Yes, teams that lose the season series sometimes win the playoff one, but not generally. For all the talk of how the playoffs are a different animal, and I don't completely disagree, the team that wins out the series during the season wins in the playoffs by a strong margin. The fact that your two best players are gone is all the more reason to be confident.

So yeah, I'll give you the bravado all day long. Because I can't wait to kick your team's ass.

how come the Caps didn't pursue a vet goalie with playoff experience?

Yeah that's super. But your exact words were "You can't even beat us WITH Crosby. And the only real hockey game played between the two teams with Sid in the lineup this season resulted in a Penguins win.

Unless they're playing half the games in outdoor puddles of slush this postseason, don't really get how the Caps have owned the Crosby-led Penguins this season...

EDIT: And please don't bring up last year. That's like hanging our hat on the playoffs of the past. They're two COMPLETELY different teams now...

Two goalies in the top half of the league in the major statistical areas. Have been one of the best defensive teams in the league since December. Recent Cup history shows that age/experience is not as important as being hot at the right time. Trend to beating the cap is to spend less on goalies.

Probably all of those reasons.

Just saying I've heard this song, before. In 09, the Caps had the home ice and took the first two games of the series, but they still didn't have enough to put the Pens away.

The Penguins have won three playoff series since that last match-up, as well as a Cup... the Caps haven't won a series, since.

If Crosby et al aren't healthy for the playoffs, and the Caps v Pens series takes place, I have little doubt who would be favored in that match-up. Even with a healthy Crosby, I have no doubt the Caps would be favored, and rightly so, considering the regular season.

However, I believe that the adversity the Pens have suffered this season will be valuable in the playoffs. The team has been mucking and grinding to win games since the WC. Currently, they are 11-9-2 sans Crosby, and still hold a four point lead over Washington in the EC. If they are fortunate to get Crosby back in the lineup, they will be an easy out for no one in the eastern conference.

Ah, the outdoor excuse. Okay then.

If you look at the trend of these two teams against one another, the Pens dominated the series from the lockout until around '08. Since then, it's gone completely the other direction save the playoff series. So I will look at other years b/c the core makeup of the team has been similar over that span.

It's my opinion. You don't have to agree with it... and I'm sure you won't.

eloco you sound piiiiiissed brother, you're out for blood hahah

but from the outside looking i don't think goalies have been that much of a problem this year, in fact i'd like to get the devils hands on one of them in the future if need be, both young, talented and showing lots of promise.

but i think the caps biggest problem has been inconsistancies and thats most likely due to the turning over the system not having entirely the proper personel for it, the trades they made yesterday, combined with the hannan trade i think should help that.

LOL and you mentioned the Pens only had a "shootout" win. The Caps managed an epic 1-0 victory over a Pens team that featured Joe Vitale, Brian Strait, Ryan Craig, Tim Wallace, Chris Conner, Brett Sterling and both Lovejoy and Engelland in the lineup. Most of those guys are average AHL players LOL.

Not from me. I said back then I thought we were still a few years away and pegged that series at about 60% chance Pens' win and 40% chance Caps' win. We played well against you guys that year, but still had a lot of growing to do with many of our young players. And that was the first time we had won the season series after being dominated the previous three. Now we've gone 10-0-2 in three years. Hard to ignore now.

And I think Neal and Kovalev were nice pickups, but you can't lose two guys like Crosby and Malkin and expect your team to go anywhere in the postseason. It's just not realistic. You may win a series, but the Pens are going nowhere in this postseason barring some dramatic and amazing recovery by Crosby, which seems unlikely.

I think if the Pens draw the right team, they could get by the first round, but I don't think the Caps are that team.

Yes, last I checked shootout wins don't count in the playoffs. 1-0 victories do. And while you are citing how terrible those players are, I don't see Malkin skating back on the ice in late March. Great argument for my points. Thanks.

Not fighting just really don't get how he thinks the Caps have owned the Pens with Crosby this year. Played 2 times. Pens won one game, lost the circus game. Got great at math but seems even to me...
