Oklahoma played Texas and Nebraska every year, which have more wins than Ohio State and have been much stronger than Michigan since WW2.

Two elite rivalry games per year cost OU a nice little handful of titles.

No they haven't. Since 1950, Texas, Nebraska and michigan all have very similar records.

National Championships since 1950
Michigan 1
Nebraska 5
Texas 4

That's not "similar" at all.

There are really two halves of college football. The dividing line is generally pre and post WW2.

I've read where games prior to 1930 were basically street fights with very few rules. There were also teams playing the equivalent of high schools. Stories were created by the schools or local newspapers themselves. There wasn't even radio in homes to listen to the game yourself and make your own determination of the truth.

There are also obvious disparities for some teams pre and post. It depends where you want to put the weight.

Ohio St is indeed a storied program. :L
Hah, he's a ASU student...and it's debatable as to whether tOSU is any more storied than any other program. Fact is any school playing as long as most have been playing is storied. The whole thing about who is more storied than someone else is an exercise in fan bias. But most of all don't forget Rule #1 of CFB message board posting:

My team is better than your team, get over it. :pound: (Sometimes my jokes just don't go through...)

I agree pre and post ww2 was a different game but when we start using other "cut off" dates it gets a little ridiculous

We just need the season to get here!

Unless you use actual facts, like I did. I guess it's only bias when the facts don't go your way.

Thanks for proving my point. Since 1950, Nebraska has averaged 8.6 wins per year. Texas averaged 8.3 and michigan averaged 7.9. As I said, very similar.

Wasn't trying to prove a point one way or another. Just putting data on the table.

Wins 1879 - 1900

1) Michigan - 98 (began football in 1879)
17) Nebraska - 47 (began football in 1890) (-51) - 19 = (-32)
22) Texas - 42 (began football in 1893) (-56) - 34 = (-22)

Michigan - 19 win head start on Nebraska. 34 Win head start on Texas

Wins 1879 - 1910

1) Michigan - 176
6) Nebraska - 118 (-58) - 19 = (-39)
14) Texas - 102 (-74) - 34 = (-40)

Wins 1879 - 1920

1) Michigan - 230
7) Nebraska - 174 (-56) - 19 = (-37)
10) Texas - 170 (-60) - 34 = (-26)

Wins 1879 - 1930

1) Michigan - 291
7) Texas - 233 (-58) - 19 = (-39)
9) Nebraska - 228 (-63) - 34 = (-29)

Wins 1879 - 1940

1) Michigan - 343
7) Nebraska - 294 (-49) - 19 = (-30)
10) Texas - 280 (-63) - 34 = (-29)

Does anyone else see the fraud that Michigan is when compared to other blue-bloods?

The lions share of their Win lead total came between 1879 and 1910.

This is where the Big 10/Notre Dame pimps want you to put the most weight. :L

To me, there's two distinct ages in college football. The first is when they wore leather helmets and the movies were all in black and white. The second is when everyone started getting air conditioning and people could fly on jet planes to games if they couldn't watch them on the newest great invention: television.

But what do I know? I thought I'd never see the day when I got more pu$$y than Rock Hudson or Bruce Jenner.

I don't want you to put any weight anywhere. I'm not saying michigan is the best program of all-time. Frankly I think their history is the most overrated of any team ever. My point, though, was that their record was very similar to both Nebraska and Texas, which it was.

No it's not. They are some 40-50 games behind post 1950. Run my numbers from 1879 thru 2014 and you'll see those pre-radio, pre-sound in movies, pre- refrigerator, leads disappear rapidly.

But you go ahead and hang your hat on 1879 - 1900.

FRAUDS!!!!

As I mentioned earlier, they average roughly a half a win per season less than Nebraska from 1950 through 2014. That is very similar.

Honestly, before this set of polls came out I never thought of Oklahoma as storied. I knew they are a team with a ton of impressive accomplishments, yes, but I never felt they were in the same level as teams like Alabama, USC, or Notre Dame. I still believe those three schools to be the most storied but researching Oklahoma's history more because of these polls has made me put them in a much higher regard.
