So I should just go look at all your wrong predictions and point them out as a reason why you should never vote in a poll again?

I haven't checked out it's % on correct guesses, but a 75% average is pretty good.

Polls aren't guesses. That's what power rankings are.

Lol just looked at the FPI... Auburn is 35th. Good stuff

And yet it predicts they only win 2 more games this year.

I bet you'll never understand it.

If I am still voting teams based on how good I thought they would be in my preseason predictions and not taking much for results on the field then yes.

So you believe the FPI rankings are based off preseason predictions?

FYI, they update on a weekly basis as more stats become available.

Once again you are cherry picking a couple of games and ignoring the entire schedule.

Most of the time I'm having to hear how much a FCS team is a piece of crap, and yet you want to rate them as being equal to any non-top25 team.

Stanford > Georgia

Duke > Wisconsin

Minnesota > Mid Tenn State

I'll even give you the Ball State < UL-Monroe

Northwestern adds a FCS win but Alabama has a loss to Ole Miss.

is UL-Monroe being better than Ball State really a good enough reason to rank a one loss team above an undefeated team?

I don't rate FCS teams and non top 25 teams the same. I just don't think Kansas is a more impressive win than Army or North Dakota State.

That doesn't mean I view UNC, Georgia, Tennessee, Cal, etc. just the same as I view Army, Wake Forest, Central Florida, etc.

I was hoping they were since Arkansas is still ranked in them, I would like to find what stats they could have possibly pulled to keep that team in the rankings.

Ok 4D.. the rest of what schedule? Both teams have played 5,games. NW 2 best wins are better than Bamas. Their next 2 best wins are AT LEAST equal to Bamas and the other game Bama lost. What exactly are you trying to say?

Holy shit I just choked from laughing.

Let me rephrase, you're guessing when you make your polls because you're projecting. I'm trying to just rank teams based only on what has happened this season. Not trying to predict the future.

The entire ranking thing is off because they do a preseason ranking. So everyone is arguing moving up and down form a baseline that was never right to begin with. Why OSU is hanging in the #1 spot? Just because they were #1 to start the season and haven't lost. The polls are terrible until the last few weeks of the season when they actually matter for putting teams where they belong.

If there was NO preseason poll, how different would the rankings look today? I think very. Start with a blank piece of paper and stop using the previous ranking for justification.

We had to tolerate ND ranked in the early weeks for so many years through the 2000's just because of that equity they had when they were good. It took a solid 5-6 years for people to start ranking them where they should be in preseason. Same with Tenn as they fell from grace in the 2000's.

And the opposite holds true. A team who has been terrible for years always gets the short end of the stick in a year when they are actually good because of history.

just my opinion...
Very well stated. I think you are 100$% correct.

UL-Monroe is probably better than Ball State at least

This is a good point. Ranking off projections is a terribly dangerous game, too much things can happen in college football, I mean who could predict UCLA losing to Arizona State?

Ok, and do you live in a black and white world, or a world in which there is grey?

IE: Is it just Stanford > Georgia and that's that, or do you say - well Stanford may be a little be better than Georgia, and take the difference between that and then total them up for an average which is useful for rating the difficulty of the entire season?

Because there is no way in hell I would ever just leave it at "Stanford > Georgia" when looking at the SoS.

Yes you did. You called them "Trash" and then later called them "Bye" weeks.

So, when you finish looking at the comparison in the schedule do you really think to yourself...

"ULM is just soooooooo much better than Ball State it makes up for Stanford being a little better than Georgia, Duke being just a little better than Wisconsin, and Minnesota and MTSU being just about even. They're soooooo much better than Ball State that it offsets not only the difference in the other two games, but also the loss that Alabama had this year"?

And that right there is why you'll never get it. You actually believe that bullshit, and yet you have absolutely not the first clue in how computer formulas work.

Computers actually do what you claim you are doing but aren't.

For one your projection ratings have Stanford higher than Georgia

two

USC West>>>>>>>>>>>>USC east
Arizona>>> Vanderbilt
Oregon State >> UL-Monroe

UCF is really bad but they can't possibly be worse than Southern.

It's a rating of team strength, not a season ranking.

Also, it's not dumb enough to be binary and actually measures what happens in games beyond "well you lost, lets make it all equal with everyone else that has a loss".
