I would do the poll but I honestly don't know where to put Ohio State. They were 11-1 with one of the worst defense in the power 5. But this year I think the offense and defense will be better. The defense will be at a least a top 15. Of course this could be just homeristic fantasy.

Why does everyone have Texas so high? They aren't that good.
Same reason some of the others have the spots they do...Because "someone" has to be there.

I know I do that on our rankings thingies here on the hoop. I get down to a spot, look at the teams left, don't like any of 'em really, so I just pick one in hopes they turn out good this year. Kind of like regular poll voters!

Homeristic fantasy is just as good as any other sophistimacted reason. Maybe better.

Besides, if a person acknowledges they are a homer... then they are a sensible homer and not one of those crazy, idiotic, nut job homers like @UCFhonors!

Michigan does not belong anywhere near the top 5. Its like every year people forget the previous years underachieving. They'll be lucky to scrape past 20 with another 10-3 season.

It’s true. But I think it should be noted that 10-3 will get them into the top 10 or at least very close to it.

They are not top 10 in my book but they're still the 2nd most talented team in the BIG and have a returning QB

I have them around the 10 - 15 range

Hmm what am I missing? Why the facepalm? What would you recommend? I see Florida as a top 15 team and MSU shouldn't be there.

Wrong thread buddy

List looks good tho

Enough of the procrastination. Just my quick thoughts on my pre-season poll. I try to rank teams in tiers and based who I think will win in a H2H match-up at a neutral site. Teams in the same team I have as more of a toss-up.

-- Tier 1 --
1. Alabama

2018: 2nd S&P+ offense, 7th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 67%/ Def. 59%)
Nick Saban is now upset and the team is finally rested since a month is not enough

2. Clemson
2018: 5th S&P+ offense, 3rd S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 77%/ Def. 64%)
3 different coaches as a finalist for the Broyles the last three seasons. The biggest lost for Clemson is leadership and it’s a major concern on who fills that void.

-- Tier 2 --
3. Georgia

2018: 3rd S&P+ offense, 8th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 53%/ Def. 72%)
One of the most balance teams in 2018 who returns key players Jake Fromm (3rd OBR in 2018), D’andre Swift (My opinion 2nd most talented RB in CFB) and returns a lot of talent on defense. My question marks new OC and WRs, can their passing game become down right scary to where it don’t matter which Defense they face. 2018: 84th, 2017: 56th, 2016: 47th It’s hard to believe this is where UGA ranks in sacks a game. It’s not the talent, it’s the scheme being too vanilla.

4. LSU
2018: 30th S&P+ offense, 5th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 82%/ Def. 70%)
I’m trying hard to not believe the hype but they LSU looks good on paper. Lot of returning talented players, they return a top 10 QB, and this Joe Brady guy from the Saints. LSU doesn’t have too many major question marks but the offense has always been at best avg no matter how much talent they have had.

5. Ohio St.
2018: 4th S&P+ offense, 26th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 42%/ Def. 85%)
OSU comes into the season with less distractions, Justin Fields who had just as much hype as Trevor Lawrence coming out of HS and returning a lot of talent on defense who were also suspect for some reason the year before. With their talent and amount of returning production you have to believe they will be better but how much?

-- Tier 3 --
6. Notre Dame

2018: 33rd S&P+ offense, 10th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 57%/ Def. 55%)
ND took a step forward when Ian Book (2018: 12th OBR) took over and made ND one of the most complete teams in the nation last year. They lose some key pieces and may take a step back but they are not falling off a cliff

7. Texas
2018: 27th S&P+ offense, 44th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 57%/ Def. 40%)
Texas prove they can win the big games with wins over OU and UGA. Loses #1 WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey to the draft but returns to seniors at the position including 6’6 Collin Johnson. Texas is 123rd in returning production on Defense, it will be interesting to see how the young talent step in

8. Oklahoma
2018: 1st S&P+ offense, 84th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 46%/ Def. 64%)
I’m excited to see how Riley will use Jalen Hurts and even think there’s a good chance Hurts will get to NY but he’s not Baker or Murray. With the downgrade in deep ball accuracy, this offense is still Elite but not as deadly. I think it’s going to take more than one to fix Stoop’s mess

9. Texas A&M
2018: 10th S&P+ offense, 21st S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 62%/ Def. 49%)
In his first year, Jimbo Fisher takes A&M from 36th to 10th in S&P+ offense and 52nd to 21st in S&P+ defense and finish 2nd in the SEC West. In his 2nd year he has returning SR lead QB Kellen Mond and a very experience WR corp. Expect an improved team under a proven coach in his 2nd year.

10. Florida
2018: 15th S&P+ offense, 17th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 77%/ Def. 71%)
Lot of returning players, Defense will be great as Mullen and Todd Grantham are going into their 2nd year. Not expecting too much from inconsistent Feleipe Frank and the offense.

11. Michigan
2018: 25th S&P+ offense, 9th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 76%/ Def. 50%)
Great weapons on offense but the scheme is too stuck in the past.

-- Tier 4 --
12. Washington

Avg recruiting ranking 28.8 from 2014-2017. 16th the last two years.
Have to see something on Offense to believe they’re any better but they do have Jacob Eason now.
2018: 33rd S&P+ offense, 4th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 67%/ Def. 34%)

13. Utah
Offense have potential with 90% returning production and a new OC.
2018: 45th S&P+ offense, 19th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 90%/ Def. 59%)

14. Iowa
2018: 54th S&P+ offense, 18th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 72%/ Def. 57%)
Great defense that’s good in the trenches and lot of production returning on offense

15. Auburn
2018: 19th S&P+ offense, 6th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 54%/ Def. 67%)
Elite defense with one of the best Dline but offense highly questionable breaking in a new QB

16. Oregon

2018: 31st S&P+ offense, 50th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 73%/ Def. 71%)
Mario Cristobal 2nd year, future 1st round QB, one of the top OL, so can Oregon offense be more than decent in 2019.
-- Tier 5 --
17. UCF

2018: 11th S&P+ offense, 47th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 54%/ Def. 63%)
With the lost of McKenzie Milton, UCF is taking a step back

18. Michigan St.
2018: 112th S&P+ offense, 2nd S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 78%/ Def. 53%)
Crippled by injuries in 2018. Expect Michigan St. to make a bounce back year.

19. Penn St.
2018: 36th S&P+ offense, 11th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 44%/ Def. 68%)
They lose Trace McSorley.

20. Washington St.

2018: 13th S&P+ offense, 59th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 58%/ Def. 64%)
Loses Gardner Minshew but return 5/6 top pass catchers and 4/5 OL starters.
11-2 in 2018 having wins over Utah, Oregon, and Iowa St

21. Wisconsin
2018: 12th S&P+ offense, 29th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 85%/ Def. 60%)
Returns Heisman candidate Jonathan Taylor and no more Hornibrook. Wisconsin just needs their defense to return to their formal glory.

-- Tier 6 --
22. Virginia

2018: 59th S&P+ offense, 28th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 53%/ Def. 68%)
Loses a great RB in Montgomery which I thank you for, Go Bears. But they return a young QB and all 5 OL and the defense is pretty good.

23. Iowa St.

2018: 59th S&P+ offense, 28th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 53%/ Def. 68%)
Loses a great RB in Montgomery which I thank you for, Go Bears. But they return a young QB and all 5 OL and the defense is pretty good.

24. Miami
Like Manny Diaz as the new coach.
Still have some concerns with their underachieving offense
2018: 66th S&P+ offense, 14th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 63%/ Def. 57%)

25. Cincinnati
Head coach Fickell took the Bearcats from 4 to 11 wins in his first two seasons
Offense should take a step forward with Desmond Ridder now playing in his 2nd year.
2018: 74th S&P+ offense, 36th S&P+ defense | Returning Production (Off. 71%/ Def.71 %)
