ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Saturday that the Patriots surprising decision to move Spikes to IR followed an incident last Friday in which the linebacker showed up late for a bye-week practice.
Spikes publicly appealed for help on Twitter after his luxury SUV became stuck in his driveway following a night of heavy snowfall. According to Mortensen, the incident was the final straw for Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who had previously fined Spikes for multiple incidents.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports the move to IR was a mutual decision that allows Spikes to collect playoff shares and keeps him from signing with another playoff team, which could've happened had he been outright released.

Oh good. Just what we needed.

See you later, Brandon Spikes. He won't be back.

Unfounded report says the Herald:

ESPN reported this morning Spikes was placed on injured reserve in part because he was late for that meeting, and it was the "final straw" for Bill Belichick. A source referred to that report as "absolutely untrue and unfounded." Spikes had issues with tardiness earlier in his career, and Belichick usually had to stay on Spikes to draw the best out of the talented player, so the relationship was certainly interesting. Spikes appreciated the "come to Jesus" talks with Belichick because he recognized the two shared one goal: Greatness.

So this is just a distraction report, like the Moss thing before the '07 SB. Great.

Well he did sit Welker on the opening drive of a playoff game we lost...after having to punt on our first possession.

THAT was fucking stupid on Bill's part.
