I am not for the trade but Watson immediately makes us a ten win team. The problem is we have no mechanism to get better during that time.
Free agency and the draft options are still in play. Do the math.. there are customarily 7 selections in every draft, losing two for two years leaves five. Perhaps the problem isn't what's left in these drafts but who's making the selections. Make the new team earn their money.

Regardless of who is making the selections, it is hard to surround Watson with talented stars without first round picks. And that cap space disappears quickly with a Watson contract.

OK, you're missing 2 first round picks over two years, Watson will be here for the next 10 to 12 years. It can still be done in years 1 and 2 though. If the trade goes through, you're going to need replacements for Ioanidis and/or Payne, a MLB and a Safety. On offense, a WR, and a bit of shoring up at TE and the OLine. Most of what is needed immediately is already in place, that's why the replacing of Kyle Smith becomes important. They have to do what he was able to do, and more.

Rapoport 'senses' Texans want to trade Watson to NFC ...

Homepage › washington › football-team › ...
Jan 28, 2021 · Speaking on WFAN's Moose and Maggie show, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said that he senses Houston would want to trade Watson to an NFC team. "My sense is that they would rather trade him to the NFC, because why would you want to face him, ever, unless it's like in the Super Bowl?" Rapoport

Remember cutting and designating Alex Smith a post June 1st cut saves another 19 million

We all would, but I would rather have Young, Sweat, Allen, Settle, and two other players of equal talent at other positions than Payne, Ion, and RK.
Good where are they ?

Why Deshaun Watson should force a trade to the Washington ...

Yahoo! Sports - News, Scores, Standings, Rumors, Fantasy Games › why-deshaun-watson-force-trade-232124647.html
Peter Hailey. Updated January 29, 2021, 7:02 AM ... Why Deshaun Watson should force a trade to Washington originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington.
This article makes a lot of good points, namely:
The division sucks
The WFT defense does not.
McLaurin’s a stud
Rivera would be the best coach he’s had (paraphrasing)
All the good young qb’s are in the AFC - i.e. he could be The Man in the NFC (Brady old, Rodgers on the way down, Wilson already 32).
The WFT Fans would cannonize him if he continued his career trajectory.

All true.

OK, Ok, OK, you all have convinced me NOT to go for Watson, but in exchange I'm now prepared to give my season prediction record for the next 10 years... 8-8 same as always historically on average because the plan such as it is hasn't changed!

(I'm half kidding, go for Watson now and stop the BS plan to piecemeal year, after year, after year!!)

Or be patient and draft a qb sometime in the near future

I took a look back at that 2017 NFL draft and what we all had to say about who this team should and should not select with the 17th overall pick. It is interesting to note that there was one poster who insisted upon this team moving up 5 spots to get Deshaun Watson, referred to as a second Warren Moon at the time. Making that move then would have effectively gotten Watson at significantly lower cost than it will today. Our pick, at 17? Johnathan Allen.

Anybody want to tell me that if you knew or listened to what I knew then, would you have passed on Allen and gotten Watson?

I screen shot some posts from that time, if anyone wants to review them let me know and I'll post them in a separate thread.

What makes that bold? Have you ever looked at a Golloday’ stats?
I have.
He has two 1,000 yard seasons, and one season of 11 tds.

Marvin Jones, at the same time as Golladay had two 1,000 yd seasons, and three seasons of 9 td catches.

It is actually only a single 1000 yard season for Jones. Golloday was also injured this season and was a rookie in another.

Golloday was #14 in receiving in 2018 and #6 in 2019.

Where exactly do you rank Payne?

978 yards is 1000 yards. Dont be stingy.

I rank Payne somewhere between private, first class, and lord supreme leader, the mother of dragons, the breaker of chains.

Then we would have no payne ,sweat, no young. Could not even draft them and maybe no Rivera no del rio gruden still be the head coach .. just be patient .. patient is refreshing

In hindsight that would’ve been wise. Good observation of you for that would’ve been pick.
