Sometimes ones you don't make are bad ones...should Sabean have gone ahead and overpaid for Torrealba, in hindsight?

In hindsight? No.

At the time? Maybe.

In hindsight, we should have kept Wheeler. At the time, it was a solid move.

My takes too. Obviously in hindsight, we didn't really have a shot at the division, and thus Wheeler shoulda been kept and not dealing for a catcher was the right move.

I agree the Beltran deal was the right move for our situation at the time...and I think like you that maybe we should've made other moves too, even if they cost too much. Stewiside really killed us.

Ross, Huff, and Torres are what killed "us". Especially Huff and Ross, who you would have expected to play better. Nate going down didn't help either.

On the list of things that killed us, sure Posey is high on the list, but replacing him with a below replacement catcher vs. a replacement level catcher is way down on the list. I'd put it below Tejada's and Keppinger's severe lack of range, which means it's around the seventh thing that killed us.

Agreed; the single largest failing was definitely Huff. In order, the rest of the things that did us in:

2. Buster getting hurt
3. Torres regressing
4. Franchez going down
5. Ross being not so boss
6. MiggE6
7. Nate getting hurt
8. Whiteside's fault
9. Kepp's range
10. Chez imploding
11. Weezy getting hurt
12. PTMFB getting hurt
13. Zito being done
14. Belt getting hurt/struggling
15. DeRo missing most of the year

In retrospect, the opening day line: 1 run, 5 hits, 3 errors, a 2-1 loss -- was to be our year in a nutshell.

Rep. Stewart played well defensively. That's as much as you can ask for from a backup catcher. Would getting Ramon Hernandez put us into the playoffs? I'm not so sure.

I agree with you on this, I was just noting the severe fail of our catchers. I've been saying for a while now that besides losing Posey, this season's debacle can be pinned mostly on Huff, Ross, and Torres. Huff probably deserves the most blame, as he was healthy all year, just got the big contract, and was supposed to be a legit hitter for a team desperate for them. Torres was always at risk of 2010 being a fluke, and Ross was never a guy expected to be the centerpiece of an offense.

Bad enough that it will keep him off the team when it comes to choosing between he and Sanchez at second base next year? I would think the Giants will think twice about releasing him for an iffy Sanchez especially if Crawford wins the everyday shortstop job.
