cooper is the most logical restructure so eliminating him handcuffs us
I can only assume you mean this year? After this year cutting him saves us $20M per year. That is huge for our cap if we choose to do it.

Cooper contract made sense.
No upfront or back end money.
A legit contract.
He is now cuttable or tradeable if need be & if we want him affordable for a #1.
His contract might have been one where it was what it was. No fake years. No stressful early years barring the career ending injury that goes with any high dollar contract.
it is what it is & we can walk at any time if we feel it is necessary. Contract isnt so bulky that teams will wait for us to cut bait. So we could trade him if need be as well. While in the moment I didnt think we needed to sign him to 100m. but the Construction of the contract I liked.

No more over the hill free agents. JJ is a 3-4 DE any way. Good fit for Pitt.

he could play DT for us. Him & Galimore would be nice while he lasted. Having him in a rotation. Who knows. maybe he could could make it 15 or 16 games. Him playing on the Cowboys would be more of teaching players to be accountable than his actual on field stuff. if he wanted a incentive contract I would do it. If he wanted a ton of money up front. I would pass.

Wait. Forget about age for a second. You don't think Watt would have been an absolutely destructive 3 tech in a 4-3? I'm thinking he would have been one of the best ever. Don't get hung up on what a guy was asked to do as compared to what he could do. What position does Watt play when his teams go to a 4 man front in pass rushing situations?

Without watching, I'm betting all 100 of these didn't come in a straight 3 man front. I wouldn't be surprised if it was less than half

I think Watt doesn't give you 16 games, and even in the games he plays, his snap count is extremely limited.

don't think we would even consider him but based on his numbers getting 12.8 games a season and him playing 85% of defensive snaps seems worth it. those are his averages

While all players risk injury, with some guys you expect injury, Watt in in that category and Dallas has more than their share of Expect Injury guys.

watt has played in 128 of 160, which averages out to only missing 3.2 games per season. again i don't think or want the Cowboys to go after him but he has been a dynamo for the Texans. but he is a team player and a motivator and would go against Cowboys and JJ patterns over the last 20+ years

He is injury prone now. JJ in the past would have been great for this team. Not now.

You can't average out the games he missed over his entire career. As player get older, he misses more time then when he was younger. JJ has missed alot of time in the last few years vs when he first started.

Problem is his injury history after his initial one. If he wasn't a injury concern Houston wouldn't have released him.

What a difference 18 months make since this thread started. Zeke looks old and worn out now. Maybe Gurley can pick him up on his way to the NFL RB old folks home. Dak suffers a season-ending injury that may compromise his future effectiveness. Cooper is still as good as he has ever been but with Zeke fading away and Dak hurt, defenses made Cooper the one guy they weren't going to let beat them. Cooper averaged 100.3 ypc before Dak got hurt and 59.4 ypc after.
