In years past, on boards that no longer exist, at this time of year we as Skins fans would be fighting. Fighting about guys like Haynesworth, McNAbb, Archuletta, and other big name free agents. We would be excited sure, but in the back of our minds we knew deep down it was doomed to fail, because we had seen it.

Skip ahead to 2013... we are still fighting. But not over how a free agent will pan out. Hell looks like we are mad that the front office might have addresses our most critical positions AND depth in alot of spots.

But we are arguing cause we dont know any better. Its what we got used to doing and now... we just got to do it.

OK... [/end semi rant]

Yeah, if the biggest arguments to be had at this point in the offseason, is where our starting FS was taken in the draft or hoping players are just injured enough to stash on the practice squad rather than being healthy contributors to the team this season... that's a far cry from what things used to be.

Yep - sounds good. It feels so much better to be a Redskins fan at this time compared to most times in the past 10 or so years. We now have a team & mgmt where we can look forward not only to the coming season but to the next 5+ years. Even if things don't work out in certain areas they have a solid organizational structure that can address those areas. Unlike most previous teams they actually value the draft.

I also feel truly confident in the current team & don't simply cross my fingers like in the past & hope that everything falls into place. HTTR

Honestly, I'm very skeptical of Allen. Sure, he is the kid of George but that doesn't mean squat. I want to give him another year (not under cap sanctions) to make my final judgment. I'm miffed we didn't do a better job of filling the RT position this off season.

Have to disagree Skins. With a clean cap, half the GMs out there should be able to field a competitive roster. Allen coming into a cap strapped team, fixing the roster even under actual cap sanctions has done a smash up job. No two bones about it on that one.

This front office has built a playoff team with 35 million dollars less in cap space than everyone else. If they didn't have that cap penalty you can probably guarantee they would have addressed the RT position with higher talent level by now. As it stands though, they are able to mask that weakness with scheme to a degree.

I'll be very interested in seeing what they do, being one of the league leaders in available cap space next offseason.

Shark and War basically summed it up for me. Long gone are the days of Vinny and Snyder being buddy-buddy, allowing personal relationships and business to intermingle. Allen has a proven track record with both Oak and TB, and so far I'm more than pleased with what he and Shanahan have tried to accomplish. A lot of fan bases, and to some degree owners, expect immediate change as soon as new coaches/back office are brought in. If I'm not mistaken, Shanahan and Allen both said give them 3 years before their plan could actually be put into motion. They both inherited something that needed time to develop and for them both to do things the right way.

Fast forward a few years after Cerrato, even with the cap penalties, and we're fielding a competitive team that has a chance at winning back to back division titles. Yeah, we have some spots which need to be addressed, but every team has that issue. Next year we get our cap back and the following year we've got all draft picks to work with. Needless to say, I'm excited what the future has to offer. Here's to developing young talent and keeping/getting everyone healthy for opening day.

HTTR!!!

FINALLY!!!!!

We have a legit front office that is capable of finding hidden gems in the draft....not trading future picks for bad players.....hopefully our run of drafting receivers hi to produce nothing has come to an end!!! hankerson...you listening...Allen coming into the mess he came into...to field a team...just a competative team is a huge thing....Division champs BONUS...Sure would be nice to get a new RT, but we can only do so much with a limited cap, and with that cap he has done a tremendous job....I want to see them next year, with that money, get QUALITY free agents with GOOD, REASONABLE contracts....and seeing that.....i will know that the SKins front office has turned the corner for sure....I fully expect that to be the case.....I love the direction we are heading!!!!

Lets not forget Shane Mathews

You can throw out all of those names & more, but there was never a worse QB then Beck! He has no business playing in the NFL.
